A screwdriver includes a body extending longitudinally from a proximal end to a distal end. The distal end includes a distal screw engaging tip. The screwdriver also includes a slot extending through a width of the screw engaging tip and extending proximally a distance into the body. The slot permits opposed portions of the screw engaging tip to spread apart from one another into a locking configuration in which the opposed portions apply a radially outward force against an interior surface of a recess in a head of a screw into which the screw engaging tip has been inserted to releasably lock the screw engaging tip within the recess.

A storage system, including: a lid; a bottom side of the storage system opposite the lid; a first plurality of medical implants stored in a rack, wherein first plurality of medical implants are oriented in a first direction from the lid to the bottom side; a first drawer located between a portion of the first plurality of medical implants and the bottom side of the storage system; a second plurality of medical implants stored in the first drawer, wherein the second plurality of medical implants are oriented in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction; and a drawer locking mechanism configured to engage the first drawer when the lid is closed to prevent the first drawer from sliding out of the storage system and to disengage the first drawer when the lid is open to allow the first drawer to slide out of the storage system.

Devices and methods for bending or cutting implants are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, an instrument can include a rotatable drive shaft that urges first and second portions of a modular bending or cutting template toward one another to bend or cut an implant disposed between the template portions. A linkage assembly can be included to provide a mechanical advantage in urging the template portions toward one another. In some embodiments, an instrument can include a rotatable drive shaft that, depending on direction of rotation, pushes or pulls a first modular template portion with respect to a second modular template portion to bend an implant disposed between the template portions in one direction or another direction. In some embodiments, an instrument can include a worm drive that rotates a cutting wheel with respect to a cutting plate to cut an implant inserted through openings formed in the cutting wheel and the cutting plate.

A drill guide handle configured to engage a variable angle drill guide, including: a handle grip; a first cannula extending from a proximal end of the drill guide handle to a distal end of the drill guide handle, wherein the first cannula is configured to provide a zero degree insertion angle for a drill bit; and a body including: a first tab and a second tab wherein the first and second tabs include a first and second tab protrusion, respectively, wherein each of the first tab and the second is configured to flex so that the first and second tab protrusions engage a horizontal groove on a variable angle drill guide; and a body protrusion on an inner surface of the body, wherein the body protrusion is configured to engage a vertical grove on the variable angle drill guide.

A modular system for treating a bone includes a main body including a channel extending therethrough. A distal end includes a driving feature sized and shaped to engage a corresponding driving structure of one of first and second bone screws. The system also includes an inner shaft sized and shaped to be inserted into the channel and including a distal end including a retaining feature for engaging a corresponding retaining structure extending within a recess at a proximal end of the first screw. Furthermore, the system includes an outer shaft extending longitudinally and including a channel extending therethrough. The channel of the outer shaft is sized and shaped to slidably receive the main body therein and including a retaining feature extending along a distal end thereof. The retaining feature of the outer shaft engages a retaining structure extending along an exterior surface of the second screw.

The invention relates to a system and method for driving orthopedic bone screws. In one aspect the driver includes a powered driving rod that is configured to releasably couple with a recess in a bone screw via a threaded system for coupling and uncoupling the screw from the driving rod.

An intramedullary (IM) nail insertion assembly includes an IM nail extending longitudinally from a proximal end to a distal end. A proximal portion of the IM nail has an internal threading. The IM nail insertion assembly also includes a connecting screw extending longitudinally from a proximal end to a distal end. A distal portion of the connecting screw has an external threading for engaging the internal threading of the TM nail. One of the proximal portion of the IM nail and the distal portion of the connecting screw has a feature to resist a disengagement of the proximal portion from the distal portion.

A driver for engaging an endcap of an intramedullary nail. The driver includes a handle extending along a longitudinal axis of the driver from a proximal end to a distal end. The handle having a handle channel extending longitudinally therethrough. The driver also includes a shaft extending through the handle channel from a proximal end to a distal end along the longitudinal axis. The shaft having a shaft channel extending longitudinally therethrough. The distal end of the shaft extends distally from the handle. The distal end of the shaft forms a driving element to be inserted into a head portion of the endcap. The driver further includes a retention pin slidably received in the shaft channel. The retention pin extends also extends along the longitudinal axis. The distal end of the retention pin is configured to reversibly lock the shaft to the head portion of the endcap.

A bone screw insertion device, comprises an outer sleeve extending from a proximal end to a distal end and including a channel extending therethrough and a driving member extending longitudinally through the channel of the outer sleeve from a proximal end to a distal end configured to engage a driving recess of a bone screw, the outer sleeve movable relative to the driving member between a first position in which the distal end of the outer sleeve extends over and covers a proximal portion of a bone screw engaged with the driving member, to a second position in which the distal end of the outer sleeve is longitudinally aligned with a proximal end of a bone screw engaged with the driving member.

An endcap for engaging a proximal end of an intramedullary nail. The endcap includes a body extending from a first end to a second end and configured to engage a channel of an intramedullary nail. The endcap also includes a head portion at the first end of the body. The head portion includes a recess sized and shaped to receive a driving element of a drive shaft. The recess includes elastic tabs extending radially toward a central axis of the recess to engage and retain a driving element received therein.

A device includes an outer sleeve of flexible material forming an outer conduit extending longitudinally therethrough for the insertion of a bone treatment device ('BTD') to target sites within a living body. A distal opening of the outer conduit is open so that, when the outer sleeve is in a desired position within the body, BTD is inserted through the outer conduit exits the outer sleeve adjacent to a target portion of a bone. The device also includes an inner sleeve received within the outer sleeve and defining an inner conduit within the outer conduit to form a protective covering. The inner sleeve is split longitudinally. Portions of the inner sleeve on opposite sides of the split are coupled to one another so that a diameter of the inner conduit is adjustable in response to forces exerted thereon by one of BTD and tissues surrounding the outer sleeve.

A compression nut for treating a bone includes a head and a body extending longitudinally from the head to a free end. The body includes a first portion including an exterior surface tapering from the head toward a second portion. An exterior threading extends along an exterior surface of both the first portion and the second portion of the body. The nut also includes a channel extending longitudinally through the body. The channel includes an interior threaded extending along an interior surface of the channel configured to threadedly engage a portion of a locking screw therein.

The body includes an exterior threading along an exterior surface of a threaded portion of the body separated from the head via an unthreaded portion. Driver instruments are disclosed herein with various features for improving usability, easing the task of cleaning or sterilizing the instrument, reducing patient trauma associated with use of the instrument, and/or reducing the cost and assembly burden of the instrument. For example, a driver instrument can include a guide sleeve to protect patient tissue from damage caused by rotating components of the instrument or a bone anchor assembly coupled thereto, and to protect extension tabs of the bone anchor assembly from inadvertent separation. By way of further example, an instrument can include a preload assembly for maintaining engagement of a driver shaft of the instrument with a bone anchor assembly. As yet another example, an instrument can consist of a small number of components which are configured for simple, tool-free assembly and disassembly. An instrument can also be configured for use with bone anchor assemblies with and without extension tabs.

An implant insertion assembly including an insertion handle extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the distal end including a recessed portion, an outer wall of the recessed portion having a first shape about a perimeter thereof and including an engagement mechanism. The implant insertion assembly also includes an implant extending from a distal end to a proximal end including an opening configured to receive the recessed portion of the insertion handle, the opening having a second shape configured to mechanically interlock with the outer wall of the recessed portion when the recessed portion is inserted therein to transmit torque from the insertion handle to the implant, the proximal end including a receiving structure in a wall thereof, the receiving structure being positioned and oriented to receive the engagement mechanism to removably lock the insertion handle to the implant in the axial direction.
