A biochip device comprising a substrate constituted by at least one plate of material forming a multimode planar waveguide and carrying chromophore elements suitable for emitting fluorescence in response to excitation by guided waves having an evanescent portion, the device being characterized in that it includes coupling means for coupling excitation light with the waveguide in the form of guided waves, the coupling means being substantially non-directional.

Biochip method

A biochip device includes a waveguide, chromophore elements, a diffusing structure, and a sloping surface. The chromophore elements are disposed on a portion of the waveguide and are configured to emit fluorescence in response to excitation by guided light waves transmitted by the waveguide. The diffusing structure is configured to generate guided light waves in the waveguide when illuminated. The sloping surface is sloped relative to a plane of the waveguide and is configured to direct excitation light into the waveguide, and the sloping surface and the waveguide are configured to deflect the excitation light to the diffusing structure to generate guided light waves within the waveguide. The sloping surface may be a face of a prism attached to or integrated with the waveguide, or the sloping surface may be a bevel formed at an edge of the waveguide.

Biochip device

The invention relates to a distributed feedback laser diode () comprising a waveguide with a gain medium assisted by a network formed by a distribution of elements () including a sub-set comprising localised resonators () distributed along the axis of the waveguide, characterised in that the frequency characteristic of the feedback induced on the wave of the guide by the spatial distribution of said elements differs by less than 50% of the resonance frequency of said localised resonators.

Distributed feedback laser diode

A source of directional radiation in an IR band comprises at least a substrate and an external layer comprising controllable cells made of a metal insulator transition material that changes phase depending on its temperature relative to a temperature at which the corresponding wavelength is located in the IR band and that possesses a crystalline phase and an amorphous phase, and control means for controlling the phase change of the cells so as to form in this external layer a diffraction grating when the cells are controlled to the amorphous phase, in order thus to obtain a switchable directional source.

Switchable directional infrared radiation source

The present disclosure relates to a system for optical detection of particles arranged in a viewing area suitable for being illuminated by radiation with a predetermined wavelength. The system includes an optical detector, and an assembly of metal plasmonic channels arranged in a single plane of which one end is close enough to the viewing area to allow optical information to be transferred from one end to the other of the channels. The channels are arranged such that the assembly forms an array for transferring optical information around the viewing area. The value of at least one spatial characteristic of the array is respectively lower and higher than the wavelength near the ends of the channels that are respectively close to and far away from the viewing area. The system includes an optical decoupler between the ends that are far away from the viewing area and the optical detector.

An imaging method and a device for detecting the fluorescence of a biochip by illuminating chromophores associated with probes () of a substrate () placed on a sensor () having photodetectors, e.g. of the CCD or CMOS type, a stop filter that rejects the excitation light of the chromophores being provided between the probes () and the sensor, the substrate () being separable from the sensor () after use so as to enable the sensor to be reused.

Method and a device for detecting the fluorescence of a biochip

An improved biochip type device comprising a substrate () including an intermediate non-absorbent multilayer mirror () covered by a layer () of high refractive index material having chromophore elements () fixed thereon, the layer () further including feature () for extracting guided-mode light in order to recover the light emitted by the chromophore elements () into the layer () in response to light excitation, and direct the light to detection and measurement means.

Biochip type device

A frequency-selective light coupler-decoupler device comprising a component of photonic crystal structure in which there is formed a waveguide having at least one longitudinal edge with a small number of rows of periodic elements of the photonic crystal so as to form coupling zones between the waveguide and the outside of the photonic crystal at coupling frequencies that are determined in particular by the width of the waveguide and/or by the spatial period of the photonic crystal elements.

Device for directional and wavelength-selective optical coupling

The invention concerns an electroluminescent device comprising first and second substantially parallel mirrors for converting electron-hole pairs into photons, and means for generating electrons and holes. The converting means and the first and second mirrors are designed to ensure the confinement between the first and second mirrors of photons having at least a selected wavelength, associated with a guided propagation mode. Additionally, the device comprises light extracting means which communicate with part at least of the converting means and the generating means, comprised between the first and second mirrors, and are designed to extract therefrom part at least of the photons in guided mode, so that they reach outside.
