Melt-blown webs having a widened process window and better barrier properties (3rd drop, cm H2O resp. mbar). The melt-blown webs are made from so-called 'controlled rheology' propylene (CR-PP), which has been visbroken without the use of peroxide but with a specific type of visbreaking additive.

Melt blown fiber

The invention relates to a novel polyolefin composition which is suitable for producing drawn tapes, fibres and filaments which have improved mechanical properties. The composition comprises A) 2 30 wt % of a propylene copolymer which comprises a a) random propylene copolymer having a content of ethylene and/or C 4-C 8a-olefin of 0.5 to 12 wt % and optionally an b) ethylene-a-olefin rubber, B) 70 98 wt % of a high density polyethylene having a density of 930 to 965 kg/m3 and a MFR (190&#xb0; C./2.16 kg) of 0.3 to 20 g/10 min.
