A device for conveying and positioning sheets, comprising positioning apparatus for positioning one of the longitudinal sides of the sheets on the ideal transport line for said longitudinal side, the positioning apparatus being adapted to occupy an operative or an inoperative position, and actuating apparatus for moving the positioning apparatus, the positioning apparatus comprising a first conveying device and a second conveying device, each comprising two conveying members, at least one of which is formed by a roller, which two conveying members can form a transport nip extending parallel to the ideal transport line, the transport nip of the first conveying device extending along the ideal transport line and the second conveying device being situated at some distance from the first conveying device in the zone of the sheet conveying path, and drive apparatus are provided by which the roller (or rollers) of each conveying device can be so driven that each conveying device in its operative position exerts on the sheets a force which is directed towards the other conveying device. The effect of this is that one of the longitudinal sides of a sheet is positioned on the ideal transport line for the longitudinal side irrespective of whether the sheet is fed diverging to either side from the ideal transport line, the lateral abutment being formed by the transport nip of the first conveying device.

The present invention relates to a device for collecting sheets into a bundle and then conveying the bundle to a subsequent location comprising two pairs of driveable rollers capable of forming a nip between each pair of rollers. The rollers come into contact with the bundle of sheets and form the nip only after the bundle is located in the nip forming area between the rollers. One pair of rollers always forms a nip with the bundle of sheets therein, thereby preventing the bundle from shifting and tearing. The timing and interaction between the two pairs of driveable rollers is described as well as their interconnections.

A top panel of a copying machine is provided with a tray or like means forming a cavity recessed from bordering top surface areas for collecting staples removed from stapled bundles of originals to be copied, and a rigid finger protrudes freely into the cavity for removing the staple from a bundle of originals suitably placed onto and moved over the appliance. The finger has its top surface largely formed flat and tapered to an upturned narrowed tip that projects slightly above the plane of the adjacent top surface areas. By placing a stapled bundle of sheets on the appliance with the staple located ahead of the finger and the bent-over legs of the staple facing upward and then manually moving the bundle over the finger, the tip of the finger can engage between the staple and the sheets, and upon further movement of the bundle the tapered forward portion of the finger pulls the staple out of the sheets.

A holder for electrographic developing powder comprises an oblong outlet opening for the powder and has the opening covered by a membrane and by a slide valve which is movable along channels bordering the opening and is provided near one of its ends with a cutting device that cuts the membrane as the slide valve is moved from a first position closing off the opening to a second position not covering the opening. The holder comprises a flexible end portion that can be contracted by being pinched in a direction substantially parallel to the plane of the slide valve, and from which projections extend laterally for engagement with notches in guides that support the holder over a powder reservoir. The cutting device is moved toward the flexible end portion as the slide valve is moved from the first to the second position. The slide valve has a greater cross dimension near its end carrying the cutting device than near its other end, whereby the flexible end portion of the holder cannot be contracted by being pinched when the slide valve does not cover the opening.

The bins are provided with guide organs and each bin can be moved so that its guide organ protrudes into the track so as to guide a sheet into a bin. In the transport track the sheets are transported by means of belts running around a vacuum holddown device so as to hold the sheets onto the belts.
