The capped electric lamp has a glass bulb (1) having an opening (3) which is sealed with an insulator plate (4). The lamp cap (20) has a circumferential wall (22) which seizes about a circumferential rim (7) of the plate (4) and presses the plate (4) against an abutment (24) in the cap (20). Thereby, an electric element (9) in the bulb (1) which is mounted in a predetermined position with respect to the plate (4), has a predetermined position with respect to references (25) at the cap (1).

Capped electric lamp

The electric lamp has a glass lamp vessel (1) having seals (3) from which an external metal wire (6) extends. A bare corrosion resistant contact wire (7), having a specific resistance of less than 0.8 .mu..OMEGA.m and a hardness of 50-300 HV is welded, e.g. butt-welded to the external metal wire (6). The contact wire (7) has an axial free end portion (8). An transversally extending intermediate portion (9) may be present between the seal and the free-end portion (8). The lamp allows secure electrical connections to a luminaire easily and rapidly to be made.

Electric lamp

A pair of lamp holders (5) and a pair of contact members (20) for mechanically and electrically mounting a double ended electric lamp (50) transversely to the optical axis (4) of reflector means (3) present in the housing (1). The contact members (20) each have a first body (21) with an electric contact (23) and a second body (22) to cooperate to keep a current lead (51) of the electric lamp (50) against the contact (23). The first (21) and the second body (22) have a hinging connection (24) one with the other, and a lock (25) at a distance therefrom for keeping them pressed one against the other. In an embodiment the housing (1) has a door (6) hingingly connected to a major part (1') of the housing. In this embodiment the hinge (24) and the lock (25) of the housing (1) act a the hinge (24) and the lock (25) of the contact members (20). The luminaire provides for an easy, fast and secure electrical connection of a lamp.

Luminaire

The irradiation device has a concave reflector (1) and a pair of spaced holders (10) for mechanically holding an elongate electric radiation source (30). The holders (10) have a rigid base (11) and a rigid first wall (12) rigidly connected thereto and a second wall (12). The second wall (12) has a resilient element (14) having an end portion (15) which is directed to the base (11) as well as to the first wall (12) at an acute angle. The element (14) is able to urge a cap (31) of a double-ended capped radiation source (30) towards the base (11) and the first wall (12) so as to hold that source (30) in an aligned position with respect to the reflector (1).

Irradiation device

The electric lamp has a lamp vessel (1) having first (2) and second (3) opposed necks, each having an end portion (4). Current conductors (7) extend from an electric element (5) having an axis (6) through a respective neck (2,3) and end portion (4) to the outside. Mounting members (10, 11) are secured to each of the necks (2,3), remote from the end portions (4). Each mounting member has a first metal body (20) which is fixed to the neck in a selected area. A second metal body (30) is secured to the first metal body (20), and has an aligned surface (31) which is in at least one of three perpendicular directions (x,y,z) in an aligned position with respect to the electric element (5). Each mounting member furthermore has a third metal body (40) having references (12) which is secured to the aligned surface (31), such that its references (12) are in a predetermined aligned position with respect to the electric element (5). The construction of the lamp allows for a fast and accurate assembling, and is light and little bulky.

Electric lamp with mounting members

The capped electric lamp of the invention has a ceramic cap (10) having a shell portion (12) and an integral base portion (11) through which metal pins (13) pass. A lamp vessel (1) having a seal (4), from which current conductors (3) to an electric element (2) within the lamp vessel extend beside one another to the exterior, is fixed in the cap (10). Outside the lamp vessel the current conductors (3) each have a portion sealed in a glass envelope (6) which is connected to the seal. The glass envelopes (6) define a slit (5) between them. A ceramic partition wall (20) having a foot (21) is fixed on the base portion (11) and extends into the slit (5), thereby creating for the current conductors and respective contact members connected thereto their own compartment (14) in the cap. The lamp cap (10) and the partition wall (20) are readily obtainable and easy to assemble and nevertheless allow for high voltages to be used to ignite or to hot restrike the lamp.

The electric lamp has a lamp vessel (1) having seals (4, 5) onto which respective bases (20, 21) are secured. Each base comprises a cylindrical insulator body (22) in a free end of which a contact member (30) is accommodated, having a contact face (31) and a protruding portion (33) which has a connection area (32) to which a current supply conductor (8) of the lamp is secured. The contact member (30) is a body made from metal foil.

A capped lamp/reflector unit has a reflector body, an electric lamp whose electric element is aligned with respect to the reflector and a cap from which contact pins extend. Within the cap the pins have a widened portion having an end face transverse to the optical axis of the reflector body. The current supply conductors of the electric lamp are cut to length transverse to the axis and butt-welded to the contact pins at the widened portion.

Capped lamp/reflector unit

A lamp/reflector assembly has an electric lamp (10) having a base (13) presenting projections (17-19) which touch an imaginary sphere having its center of curvature coincident with the electrical element (12) of the lamp. The reflector (1) of the assembly has an opening (6) through which the lamp (10) extends, and a convex, spherically curved mounting surface (30) aligned with respect to the opening (6). The mounting surface (30) has its center of curvature substantially coincident with the optical center (4) of the reflector (1). The projections (17-19) of the base bear against the mounting surface (30) and the optical center (4) of the reflector (1) coincides with the electrical element (12), also when the lamp occupies one of a number of positions tilted with respect to the optical axis (3) of the reflector (1).

Lamp/reflector assembly and electric lamp for use therein

The capped high-pressure discharge lamp has a lamp cap of insulating material provided with a centrally disposed contact member and with a metal sleeve concentrical thereto. A first end of a discharge vessel is mounted within said metal sleeve and a current supply conductor is attached to said metal sleeve. The rotationally symmetrical geometry of the cap allows insertion of the lamp into a holder in any rotational position.

Capped high-pressure discharge lamp and lampholder for same

A lamp holder has a housing which comprises a base part and a cover part. The cover part, which has contact holes to receive terminals of a high pressure gas discharge lamp to provide access to contact members, is integral with a partition wall which extends inside and outside of the housing between the contact holes. The partition wall which divides the housing into chambers extends into a recess in the base part. The cover part and the base part form curved channels through which electric cables are led to respective contact members. As a result of these measures, the risk of breakdown is avoided, yet the lamp holder structure can be compact.

Lampholder for a high-pressure gas discharge lamp

A viewing apparatus suitable for use as a night sight includes an image intensifier (3) arranged between an objective (1) and an ocular (7). An alignment member (25) has an alignment marker (28) arranged between the image intensifier (3) and the ocular (7) adjustable by rotation of an alignment marker support (23) about two orthogonal axes (X, Y) which intersect each other at a virtual point of rotation (M) which is located on an optical axis (17).
