The invention relates to an insert for a warhead for producing a projectile by means of an explosive deformation of the insert. In order to achieve increased end-ballistic performances of the projectile formed by the explosive deformation of the insert, such insert is tapered at its peripheral region and has a flattened central region on the convex side thereof.

Insert for a warhead

A warhead having hollow charge, such as a bomblet as well as a large caliber armor-piercing projectile has an improved detonation wave guide arrangement which preferably produces a high pyrophoric effect at target impact. The detonation wave guide itself is made of an incendiary-active (flamable) material, whereby a strong exothermal reaction is released by shock waves at target impact in the binding substances which form the wave guide. By exclusively initiating this exothermal reaction and incendiary effect by means of shock waves a rapid and simple introduction of the reaction in a few microseconds is achieved. The binding substance consists of metal particles and gases embedded in matrix. These metal particles have a high combustion enthalpy and the matrix is made of an organic polymer. The shock waves cause a decomposition of the metal particles of the matrix and a simultaneous temperature increase and a chemical reaction is triggered, whereby by means of the reaction products the temperature is further increased and by virtue of the release of large heat energy even poorly flamable substances are burned.

Hollow charge with detonation wave guide

A fragmentation projectile having at least two adjacent casings including an inner casing having an inner surface and an outer surface, and at least one outer casing substantially surrounding the outer surface of the inner casing. An explosive charge is disposed within the inner casing, and an incendiary mass is disposed on the inner surface of the inner casing and facing the explosive. Structured zones are defined on the inner casing and include regions of lesser wall thickness than the portions of the inner casing surrounding the regions to cause a shock wave generated when the explosive charge is detonated to be transferred locally into the at least one outer casing to produce fragments of a predetermined size and shape.

An explosive charge provided with a metal facing for the formation of an essentially rod-shaped projectile by detonative conversion of the facing. The facing is provided in its central region with a coating of a material which is denser than the material of the facing.

Explosive charge facing

A warhead including a body surrounding an explosive and a projectile forming liner connected to the end of the body. In order to prevent undefined chipping effects along the edge of the liner during detonative reshaping of the liner, the liner and at least the part of the body immediately adjacent the liner form an integral unit made of the same material.

In particular, the outer regions of the flat disk produced, have a greater material hardness than the central regions of the disk.

An exploding missile has a casing and a parachute attached to the casing for making it move in a predetermined direction relative to the casing after launch. A charge in the casing has a projectile-forming front face, facing forward in the travel direction. An antenna is provided on the casing behind the front face and charge and is displaceable between a retracted position wholly behind the charge and an extended position projecting laterally therefrom and directed at least generally forwardly in the direction past the charge. An actuator is connected between the casing and the antenna for moving same from the retracted into the extended position after launch of the missile. A controller including a receiver connected to the antenna and a detonator in the charge detects the distance to a target in front of the missile and explodes the charge when a predetermined distance is detected or the target is otherwise sensed. The antenna is deployed after launch in a position capable of scanning forward of the obstacle to the secondary projectile, when that goes off.

Exploding missile

A load-carrying missile adapted for firing from barrel weapons and having a plurality of explosive charges disposed thereon with a plurality of projectile forming coverings distributed over the periphery of the missile and directed substantially perpendicular to the axis of the missile. The missile is provided with a parachute which is connected to the casing of the missile and which causes a directional braked descent of the missile in the target area.

A disc-shaped warhead adapted for being fired from a barrel weapon, and particularly for being stacked with a plurality of similar warheads in a load-carrying missile for ejection one after the other. The warhead has a plurality of slave missiles disposed in radially directed firing tubes, and a parachute connected to the warhead and causing a directional, braked descent in the target area. Each of the slave missiles has a proximity fuse to detonate it individually after reaching a predetermined distance from the ground or other target.
