A method for controlling water condensation in the pores of a near wellbore region of a permeable formation through which wet natural gas flows into an inflow section of an oil and/or gas production well, the method comprising controlling fluid transfer through the near wellbore region such that development of a water bank resulting from condensation of water in said region is inhibited or promoted. If the well is a gas production well then development of a water bank may be inhibited by controlling pressure drawdown, cyclic well shut in, fracturing and/or injection of heat generating and/or water transporting chemicals.

Method of controlling water condensation in a near wellbore region of a formation

The invention relates to a reactor (), suitable for the catalytic conversion of a feed mixture which is capable of explosion and/or ignition, comprising a feed supply chamber (), an effluent discharge chamber (), a catalyst bed () having an upstream surface () and a downstream surface () which is in fluid communication with the effluent discharge chamber (), and means for covering part of the upstream surface () that partly confine the feed supply chamber (), wherein the feed supply chamber () has, during normal operation, no zones where the fluid flow is stagnant, to the use of such a reactor (), in particular a catalytic partial oxidation process, and to transport means provided with such a reactor ().

Catalytic reactor

A compact fuel processor for converting a hydro-carbonaceous fuel into hydrogen and carbon dioxide having in series a hydrocarbon conversion zone for converting the hydro-carbonaceous fuel into a product gas of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, a water-gas shift reaction zone containing a catalyst suitable for the water-gas shift conversion reaction, an auxiliary water-gas shift reaction zone containing a catalyst suitable for the water-gas shift conversion reaction, and a carbon monoxide removal zone. The invention further relates to a fuel cell system having such a fuel processor and a fuel cell and to the use of such a fuel processor or such a fuel cell system.

Fuel processor

A reactor with a catalyst bed having a central longitudinal axis, which catalyst bed has an upstream surface perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis, and a distribution chamber for directing a gaseous mixture of reactants to the upstream surface of the catalyst bed, which distribution chamber has an inlet for tangentially introducing the mixture into the distribution chamber, the distribution chamber being defined by the upstream surface of the catalyst bed, a side surface having a central longitudinal axis that coincides with the central longitudinal axis of the catalyst bed, and a covering surface formed such that the distance between the upstream surface of the catalyst bed and the covering surface is monotonically decreasing towards the central longitudinal axis. The invention further relates to a fuel cell system having such a reactor and a fuel cell and to a process for the catalytic oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous fuel using such a reactor.

Catalytic reactor with tangential flow distribution

Described is a mixing device for mixing a gaseous stream of a fuel and an oxidant that has a cylindrical mixing chamber, means for injecting a gaseous stream of the fuel tangentially along the inner surface of the wall of the mixing chamber, and means for injecting a stream of the oxidant axially along the central longitudinal axis of the mixing chamber, wherein the diameter of the mixing chamber and the dimensions and location of the means for injecting the fuel and the oxidant are such that the tangentially injected stream of the fuel forms a wall jet around the axially injected stream of the oxidant without impinging upon the other stream. A reactor for the partial oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous fuel containing the mixing device and to a process for the catalytic partial oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous fuel using the mixing device is further described.

Mixing device

A process for the catalytic partial oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock with an oxygen-containing gas, wherein a flow of a feed mixture comprising the hydrocarbonaceous feedstock and the oxygen-containing gas is contacted with a catalyst comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table supported on a catalyst carrier to form a conversion product comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen, wherein the catalyst is retained in a fixed arrangement in a reactor comprising a feed supply chamber which is in fluid communication with the upstream surface of the fixed arrangement, in which process a part of the conversion product formed flows back to the feed supply chamber. The invention further relates to an electrical-energy generating process, an electrical-energy generating system, and transport means provided with this electrical-energy generating system.

Process for the catalytic partial oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock

A process for the catalytic oxidation of a hydrocarbonaceous fuel into a conversion product, wherein a feed mixture comprising the fuel and an oxygen-containing gas is contacted with a catalyst bed, comprising the steps of: (a) setting the flow rate of the fuel and flow rate of the oxygen-containing gas, (b) determining the actual temperature of the upstream surface of the catalyst bed by mans of a quick response device; and (c) generating an output signal that is a function of the difference between the actual temperature and a set point for the temperature; and using the output signal to adjust the flow rate of the fuel and/or of the oxygen-containing gas.

Catalytic oxidation process with flow control system

Apparatus for mixing reactive fluids which are capable of ignition or explosion, at elevated temperature and pressure, for subsequent conversion by contact with a catalyst, such as a (partial) oxidation catalyst or in a combustion zone, comprising in sequence an upstream inlet end, a mixer, an expander, a diffuser and a downstream outlet end, the outlet end being characterised by a greater available cross-sectional area than any of the inlet end, mixer and expander, and the expander having substantially increasing internal cross-sectional area in downstream direction, wherein the available cross-sectional area of the expander at any point along its length is less than the difference in internal cross-section of the expander at its downstream and its upstream ends, a process therefor and the use thereof, in particular the use thereof in a process for the catalytic partial oxidation of hydrocarbon feedstock.

Fluid mixer and process using the same

A process is provided for preparing synthesis gas by partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon-containing fuel in the absence of moderator gas. A hydrocarbon-containing fuel and an oxidiser are supplied through a reactor mix type burner to a gasification zone under oxygen blast conditions. At least the rim(s) of the burner internal(s) separating the fuel from the oxidiser at the rim tip(s) is (are) made of, or lined with, a ceramic material or a noble metal or a noble metal alloy.

Process for preparing synthesis gas

A non-water cooled burner is provided for preparation of synthesis gas by partial oxidation of hydrocarbon-containing fuel and an oxygen-containing gas applied as oxidiser. The burner comprises a burner head and an arrangement of passages or channels for feeding the fuel and oxidiser and optionally a moderator gas to a reactor. The burner head is provided with a non-ceramic lining or thin-walled mantle mounted at its one end on the burner head and its other end directed to the reactor and surrounding the passages. The non-ceramic lining is externally provided with a protection shield against hot synthesis gas, the protection shield comprising a plurality of separate ceramic members which join sideways at least partially in such a manner that the non-ceramic lining at its the other end is encircled over a determined part of its length by the plurality of separate ceramic members. The plurality of ceramic members is fixed on the non-ceramic lining.

Burner for partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon-containing fuel

A method is presented for stabilizing the flame on the tips of burner internals in a process for preparing synthesis gas by partial oxidation of a gaseous hydrocarbon-containing fuel. The method comprises supplying a gaseous hydrocarbon-containing fuel, a moderator gas and an oxidizer through a burner to a reactor, and adjusting the mass flow of the moderator gas such that the moderator gas concentration does not exceed a predetermined limit. The process conditions are effected such that the flame contacts the burner internal tips. In case of flame-lifting from the burner internal tips, the velocities and mass flows of the fuel and/or oxidizer and/or moderator gas are re-adjusted in such a manner that the flame is restabilized on the burner internal tips.

Method for flame stabilization in a process for preparing synthesis gas

A process for the manufacture of synthesis gas by reacting oxygen-containing gas, applied as oxidizer and gaseous hydrocarbon-containing fuel in a reaction zone of a non-catalytic gas generator comprising the steps of injecting the said fuel and the said oxidizer into the reaction zone through a multi-orifice (co-annular) burner comprising arrangement of n separate passages or channels coaxial with the longitudinal axis of said burner, wherein n is an integer .gtoreq.2 (2, 3, 4, 5 . . . ) wherein the (n-1).sup.th passage is the inner passage with respect to the n.sup.th passage, measured from the longitudinal axis of the said burner, and wherein gaseous hydrocarbon-containing fuel and, optionally, a moderator is passed through one or more of the passages, but at least through the n.sup.th (outer) passage whereby at least one passage remains; oxidizer and, optionally, a moderator, is passed through one or more of the remaining passages, but at least through the (n-1).sup.th passage. In any two adjacent passages in which oxidizer is passed through the one passage, and gaseous hydrocarbon-containing fuel is passed through the other passage, the said oxidizer has a higher velocity than said hydrocarbon-containing fuel.
