Light concentrator module with high refractive index interconnect

An LED lighting unit comprising a support structure (), an LED-based light emitting structure () mounted within the support structure and an optical beam shaping arrangement () over the top of the support structure. The optical beam shaping arrangement comprises an optically transparent and thermally stable material, and the support structure supports the microstructured layer at a small height above the LED-based light emitting structure. This height may for example be less than 0.5 mm. The optical beam shaping arrangement enables a compact and low height lighting unit to be mounted on a carrier by reflow soldering without damaging the optical beam-shaping component.

Compact LED lighting unit for use in camera or video flash applications

The generally Lambertian LED die emission is modified by an optical structure formed over the LED die that reduces the light emission along a normal axis and enhances the light emission at an angle with respect to the normal axis, producing a certain light emission profile. A phosphor layer is provided overlying the optical structure, such as in a reflective light-mixing chamber. The light emission profile results in more uniform flux from the LED die impinging across the surface of the phosphor. Some of the LED light passes through the phosphor and some of the light is converted to light of a different wavelength. The light emission profile results in more uniform color and temperature across the phosphor. The light emission profile may be created by a lens, a patterned layer over the LED die, a semi-reflective layer over the LED die, an optical sheet, or other technique.

Method for providing a reflective coating to a substrate for a light emitting device

A wavelength converting member is provided, comprising a sealed capsule at least partly made of sintered polycrystalline ceramic, for example sintered polycrystalline alumina, said capsule defining at least one sealed cavity; and&#x2014;a wavelength converting material contained within said sealed cavity. The wavelength converting member has high total forward transmission of light, high thermal conductivity, high strength and provides excellent protection for the wavelength converting member against oxygen and water. The wavelength converting member can advantageously be applied in a light emitting arrangement or as a color wheel for a digital image projector.

A light emitting module includes at least one LED mounted on a reflective base and surrounded by reflective walls to form a cavity. A partially diffusive layer containing a phosphor is mounted above the LED with a gap therebetween. Some of the light emitted by the phosphor is backscattered toward the LED, base, and walls. The LED absorbs a significant amount of the light, while the reflective base and walls efficiently reflect over 90% of the light back toward the phosphor layer for exiting the module. Various equations are provided that allow the designer to select an optimal gap between the LED and the partially diffusive layer to maximize light extraction efficiency out of the diffusive layer. The optimal gap range for maximizing light extraction efficiency is a product of LED largest linear length, LED surface area, base area, wall area, and reflective coefficients of the various elements.

Light emitting module, a lamp, a luminaire and a display device

The present invention relates to a LED module which converts pump light from a LED chip () to light at another wavelength, which is emitted from the module. The conversion takes place in a portion of a luminescent material (). The color purity of the LED module is enhanced by reducing any leakage of pump light using a reflector in combination with an absorber. In one embodiment, the absorber is integrated as one or several thin absorbing layers between the layers of a multi-layer reflection filter (); this may yield an even higher reduction of pump light leakage from the module.
