A lighting device () is provided which comprises a light guide (), a metal strip (), a solid state light source () and a base () for mounting the lighting device. The base includes an electrical interface. The light guide extends along a plane (). The metal strip extends at least partly around the light guide along a surface () of the light guide. The metal strip is arranged in thermal contact with the surface of the light guide. The solid state light source is arranged in thermal contact with the metal strip and is arranged to emit light into the light guide. The light guide serves to increase a light emitting area of the lighting device and to dissipate heat. The metal strip allows heat generated by the solid state light source to be transferred to the light guide.

The present invention relates to a lighting device () comprising a split lighting engine with at least two thermally separated sub-engines (). Each sub-engine comprises at least one solid state light source () and a component () adapted to regulate electric current or power to the at least one solid state light source (), so that the sub-engines () are individually drivable based on a thermal environment of each sub-engine.

The disclosed embodiments relate to a lighting device () comprising an exit window () and a light source substrate () arranged to carry at least one solid-state light source (), the at least one light source () being arranged to emit light through the exit window (). The exit window () is shaped to allow a front surface of the light source substrate () to be brought into physical contact with a surface of the exit window facing the light source substrate (), and in that the light source substrate () is held in physical contact with the exit window (), thereby enabling thermal contact between the light source substrate () and the exit window (). There is provided a lighting device () which is suitable for a retrofit LED lamp, and which comprises an envelope () surrounding an inner volume (), of which envelope an outer surface () is arranged for distributing light from a multiple of light sources () of the lighting device. The light source assembly further comprises a light source arranged to bridge a terminal gap between the first and second electrical terminals such that the light source is in electrical connection with the first and second electrical terminals.

Light emitting device

A lighting unit comprising a tapering cavity surrounded by a circumferential reflective wall and extending between a light emission window and a light entrance surface where a light source is (to be) mounted. An optical plate having a light outcoupling structure is provided at the light emission window for redirecting and issuing light as a uniform lighting unit light beam. Said uniform lighting unit light beam has a first beam emission angle &#x3b2; in a first direction and optionally, for example for a rectangular shaped light emission window, a second beam emission angle &#x3b3; in a second direction transverse to the first direction. A light emitting device, comprising a flexible substrate () with a single, structured conductive layer (), and a plurality of LEDs () arranged on said substrate (), said structured conductive layer () forming electrodes for driving said LEDs (). The structured conductive layer comprises a plurality of heat dissipating pads (), each having an area significantly larger than the area of each LED (), and each LED () is thermally connected to at least one of said pads (), and electrically connected in series between two pads (). Through this design, each LED is thermally connected to a relatively large heat dissipating area, and the thermal energy built up in the LED will be distributed over this area, and then dissipated upwards and downwards from this area. As the addressing can be handled by a single conducting layer, the flexibility of the substrate is improved compared to multilayer substrates. By connecting each LED in series between two pads, a very large portion of the conducting layer can be used for the pads, and very little area needs to be occupied by conducting tracks, which otherwise may be a problem with single layer designs.

A semiconductor cooling device for transferring heat from a semiconductor die (). The semiconductor cooling device includes a heat dissipator () that may be thermally coupled to a semiconductor module () to be cooled for dissipating heat from the semiconductor die (); a housing () in or on which the semiconductor die () is mounted; a fluid flow passage () for providing a forced fluid flow within the housing (); and a fluid path () arranged to guide the forced fluid flow in a first direction between the fluid flow passage () and the heat dissipator () and further arranged to guide the fluid flow along the heat dissipator () in a second direction different to the first direction. In a particular embodiment, the semiconductor cooling device is used to dissipate heat from an array of LEDs.

The present invention relates to a method for making a global LED lamp () having a transparent globe () and a base () for connecting to a lamp socket. By wrapping the base () in expansive foam tape () of Compriband type or similar, prior to inserting it in a neck shaped portion () of the globe (), automatic alignment of the base () in the globe neck () may be obtained. Further, soft metal strips () may be wrapped about the tape () prior to wrapping the tape () about the base (). The tape () acts as an inflatable cushion, which presses the metal strips () towards the base () and the globe (). Improved heat transfer between the globe () and the base () may thus be obtained.
