The invention relates to a deflection yoke ( ) for a cathode ray tube ( ) in which the energy for deflection is reduced. This is done by providing a magnetic material ( ) in voids ( ) that occur between the ferrite core ( ) and a set of frame coils ( ). The magnetic material ( ) is comprised in a preformed insert ( ), which may further comprise a rubber or plastic material. This results in a clean method of adding the magnetic material.

Magnetic material filling for void spaces in deflection yokes

A cathode ray tube ( ) having an improved deflection unit ( ) is described. The deflection unit ( ) comprises line and/or frame coils that comprise a composition of wires having a conductive coating and wires having a non-conductive coating. Such deflection units have a good anti-ringing performance, while the good adhesion characteristics of non-conducting coated wires are maintained.

A cathode ray tube includes a deflection unit. A coil system of the deflection unit is provided with a conductive layer, the value for f,/&Dgr;f ranging between 0.5 and 10, &Dgr;f being the half-value width of the impedance curve around a peak frequency f,, and f,being greater that 1 MHz. This results in a reduction of ringing phenomena.

Saddle-shaped, flared deflection coil for display tubes, having two arcuate connection portions at the ends and two interposed coil flanks located at both sides of a window. The coil is wound by making use of two wire bundles which are simultaneously fed (by means of two winding arms or flyers). At certain instants during the winding process, the flyers can be moved apart in such a way that a pin can be inserted between the wire bundles. The result is a coil having (triangular) apertures in the flank portions in which one wire bundle extends along one side of each aperture and the other wire bundle extends along another side.

Method of winding a saddle-shaped deflection coil

A cathode ray tube is provided with a deflection unit. The yoke is secured to a flange of a coil holder by means of connecting elements. These connecting elements are flexible in the radial direction so that differences in thermal expansion between the yoke and the rest of the deflection unit are compensated in a flexible manner. By virtue thereof, movement of the yoke relative to the coils, which leads to an irreversible change of the deflection fields, is precluded or is at least less likely.

A deflection unit comprising a set of preformed diametrical deflection coils. A hollow coil support of synethic material includes at least two lugs into which respective permanent deformations are impressed. The coils are mechanically anchored to the lugs by means of, for example, an ultrasonic welding process in which the locations of the coil support situated opposite supported locations of the coils are softened and pressed into the coils. The coils substantially free of the coil support, i.e., the larger part of each coil is free of the coil support, and are not deformed so that their mutual position is accurately maintained.

Method of manufacturing a deflection unit comprising a set of diametrical deflection coils, in which method the coils are placed on a jig which supports each coil at a plurality of locations and in which a coil support of synethic material is urged against the free surface of each coil. The coils are mechanically anchored by means of, for example an ultrasonic welding process in which the locations of the coil support situated opposite supported locations of the coils are softened and pressed into the coils. The coils are not deformed in that case and their mutual position defined by the jig is accurately maintained.
