An apparatus and a corresponding method for checking value documents, involves at least one first sensor configured to detect electromagnetic radiation reflected and/or transmitted by a value document and to convert the radiation into corresponding first sensor signals. At least one second sensor is configured to detect sound waves reflected and/or transmitted by the value document and to convert the sound waves into corresponding second sensor signals, and an evaluation device configured to determine a first area value which characterizes a first area of the value document on the basis of the first sensor signals, to determine a second area value which characterizes a second area of the value document on the basis of the second sensor signals, and to infer a possible identification marking of the value document with a marking ink on the basis of the first and second area value.

In a bank-note processing machine, bank notes are guided through between two components of a checking device by means of a transport band. The transport band is led away at least partly from the checking device by means of deflection rollers to enable a better check of the bank notes and a trouble-free transport of the bank notes.

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for recognizing forged documents of value, wherein the documents of value are illuminated with clocked excitation light of a light source. Within the bright phase of the excitation light a first luminescence intensity is detected, within the dark phase a second luminescence intensity. Because of the afterglow of the light pulses there is a residual fluorescence, which distorts the luminescence intensity in the dark phase. By linking the second luminescence intensity with the first luminescence intensity, e.g. by subtracting a scaled first luminescence intensity, a corrected second luminescence intensity is determined, which substantially corresponds to the phosphorescence signal of the document of value.

Method and apparatus for checking documents of value

A method and an apparatus for checking bank notes, in which data from at least two different measurings of the bank notes to be checked are evaluated. Bank notes are checked, whereby data from at least two different measurings of bank notes to be checked are evaluated, a first property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one first measuring, at least one second property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one second measuring. A correlation between the first and the second property for the same places on the bank note to be checked is determined, and the first property is derived once again. For the places of the bank note to be checked, for which a correlation between first and at least second property has been determined, an altered derivation of the first property from the data of the at least first measuring is performed.
