The two housing parts are used as springing means which are mounted behind each other, thereby extending the full spring path. Despite the soft springs obtained by the housing, the individual housing parts can be manufactured from a stable material so that they remain dimensionally stable over a long-term period even when subjected to heavy stress by virtue of the fact that they are arranged between a vehicle seat and the chassis of the vehicle, thereby meeting the high quality standards required by the vehicle industry. Complex successive positioning of the springs inside the housing is avoided. As a result, it is possible to produce a force measuring device which is particularly compact, stable and economical. A coil with a core is used as an inductive deflection sensor.

The invention relates to a device and method for detecting the occupation of a seat in a motor vehicle. The device comprises first sensor elements (SE), which are flatly arranged on the seat surface of a vehicle seat and are part of a first sensor seat mat (OCSM) for measuring the weight or a weight profile on the vehicle seat. The device also comprises an evaluating unit, which is connected down from the sensor elements and provided for evaluating the first sensor signals of the first sensor seat mat (OCSM). The inventive device comprises additional safety sensor elements (SE), which are flatly arranged on the seat surface of the vehicle seat, likewise connected to the evaluating unit, and provided for testing the operability of the first sensor elements (SE). The inventive device is used in a method for detecting the occupation of a seat in a motor vehicle during which a control unit of an occupant protection system adapts the triggering behavior of an occupant protection to the determined occupation of the seat when the safety sensor elements (SE) confirm the weight and/or the weight distribution established by the sensor seat mat (OSCM).

Device and method for detecting the occupation of a seat in a motor vehicle

A disk-shaped silicon sensor element for a pressure sensor is described. The sensor element has a disk upper side, a disk underside, stress measuring elements that convert mechanical stresses into signals, and circuits disposed on the disk upper side. The disk underside serves during a pressure measurement for receiving a force that acts as a bending pressure for bending the disk-shaped silicon sensor element. The sensor element is formed with essentially the same thickness over its entire extent.
