System and computer-implemented method for migrating partial tree structures of virtual disks for virtual computing instances between sites in a computer system uses a compressed trie, which is created from target tree structures of virtual disks at a plurality of target sites in the computer system. For a virtual computing instance selected, the compressed trie is used to find candidate target sites based on a disk chain string of the virtual computing instance. For each candidate target site, a cost value for migrating the virtual computing instance along with a partial source tree structure of virtual disks corresponding to the virtual computing instance from the source site to the candidate target site is calculated to select a target site with a lowest cost value as a migration option to reduce storage resource usage in the computer system.

For each component of the identified components, a sub-flow of the diagnostic workflow is started to run at least one probe of the obtained probes to generate a diagnostic result of the component. In one embodiment, a virtual network operations center (NOC) with a centralized view of distributed, cross-cloud hybridity manager installations is responsible for tracking incident reports relating to hybridity managers and associated bugs, and the virtual NOC automatically publishes notifications of upgrade builds that fix the tracked bugs to the appropriate hybridity managers. When the same bug is encountered again with another hybridity manager instance, the virtual NOC may also publish an upgrade notification to the other hybridity manager instance, without requiring a support ticket to be filed, etc.

Techniques are disclosed for cross-cloud hybrid services upgradability. In one embodiment, a virtual network operations center (NOC) with a centralized view of distributed, cross-cloud hybridity manager installations is responsible for continuously gathering information on the environments of on-premise and cloud computing systems, analyzing the gathered information to identify upgrades to hybridity manager instances that are compatible with dependent components and paired hybridity manager(s), and publishing notifications of compatible upgrades to the hybridity manager instances based on the analysis. The publishing of upgrade notifications by the virtual NOC is a server-initiated upgrade that is coordinated across hybrid cloud computing system sites, in contrast to traditional isolated client-initiated upgrades. In addition, the virtual NOC may revoke previous notifications if the associated upgrade versions are no longer compatible with the dependent components and/or the paired hybridity managers.

System and computer-implemented method for migrating a tree structure with multiple virtual disks and multiple virtual computing instances from a source computing environment to a destination computing environment involves handling leaf and shared virtual disks of the tree structure differently on a level-by-level basis to produce a replicated tree structure in the destination computing environment. For a leaf virtual disk, the leaf virtual disk and a virtual computing instance attached to the leaf virtual disk are replicated in the destination computing environment. For a shared virtual disk, creating a dummy virtual computing instance is created in the source computing environment and the shared virtual disk and the dummy virtual computing instance are replicated in the destination computing environment. Any dummy virtual computing instances replicated in the destination computing environment for the migration can then be removed.

Disclosed are various embodiments for costing Raw-Device Mapping (RDM) disks. A pseudo-datastore is created. The pseudo-datastore represents the RDM disk. The RDM disk includes a mapping file that exposes direct access to a disk identified by a logical unit number (LUN). A unit rate is assigned to the pseudo-datastore, the unit rate representing a cost per unit of storage provided by the RDM disk. Usage of the RDM disk is monitored. A cost is calculated for the usage of the RDM disk for a period of time based on the unit rate assigned to the pseudo-datastore.

A hybrid cloud manager determines a scope of migration from the private data center to the cloud data center. Each migration phase comprises a subset of the one or more clusters. The hybrid cloud manager generates a migration schedule based on at least the one or more migration phases. A determination can be made as to a number of disks used by a linked clone VM, among the disks in a software defined data center, over a time period. In some examples, a cost for a total usage of the number of disks over the time period can be allocated to the linked clone VM, regardless of whether the total usage over the time period includes usage by other VMs. In some examples, a cost for a total usage of the number of disks over the time period can be allocated to the linked clone VM, in proportion to the number of VMs that use the disk regardless of relative usage of the disk by each of the number of VMs.

The present disclosure is related to methods, systems, and machine-readable media for allocating cost of disk usage to a linked clone virtual machine (VM) based on a parameter of usage. A determination can be made as to a number of disks used by a linked clone VM among a plurality of disks in a software defined data center over a time period and as to a respective portion of a parameter of usage for each of the number of disks used by the linked clone VM over the time period that is attributable to the linked clone VM. A portion of a cost for usage of each of the number of disks over the time period can be allocated to the linked clone VM in proportion to the respective portion of the parameter of usage attributable to the linked clone VM and/or on a relative latency.
