A multi-source picture viewer adapted for use within a portable electronic device to view pictures saved on multiple sources, comprising a common graphical user interface for providing picture viewing functionality that is independent of the multiple sources, an optional domain-specific graphical user interface for providing source-related picture viewing functionality that is dependent on the multiple sources, and an image-fetching transport layer for retrieving pictures from the multiple sources and converting the pictures to a common picture model for display on the portable electronic device under control of the common graphical user interface and further manipulation via the domain-specific graphical user interface.

The present specification relates generally to computing devices and more particular relates to a method and apparatus for receiving data from a plurality of feed sources at a plurality of servers via a mobile device comprising a processor interconnected with a display. In one aspect, the mobile device is configured to start a feed service; register feed adapters with the feed service; receive content data via the feed adapters; and generate a list view of the content data on a display of the mobile device.

A system and method are provided for controlling a connection to an application server. The method comprises storing a chat state indicative of interactivity with a chat feature in a social networking application; detecting resumption of the social networking application subsequent to an interruption thereto; determining the chat state; and restoring the chat feature for the social networking application to the determined chat state. The method may also, upon detecting inactivity with respect to the chat feature, comprise executing one or more operations to maintain a connection with a server for the social networking application according to a first communications protocol. The method may also, upon detecting that a second period of time has elapsed subsequent to detecting inactivity, comprise receiving data associated with the chat feature according to a second communications protocol.

System and method for controlling connections to an application server

Apparatus and methods provide a mechanism to enhance the communication capabilities of wireless users. Various embodiments include apparatus and methods to manage operational features of a mobile wireless device using a parameter for the mobile wireless device set in another mobile wireless device. This mechanism allows for remote administration of the mobile wireless device. In various embodiments, such a parameter can be correlated to directed action to be conducted by a wireless server, where the wireless server identifies the directed action, corresponding to the parameter, during transferal of the parameter from the mobile wireless device in which the parameter is set to the mobile wireless device that is managed using the parameter or a derived parameter.
