A process for in-drum drying of liquid radioactive waste includes sealing a shielded container by placing a plug in a central opening formed in a lid of the container. The plug is removed from the opening and a filling adapter having an outside diameter that fits the opening is inserted into the opening. Liquid radioactive waste is poured into the sealed container and vapors are vented from the container, through the filling adapter. The liquid radioactive waste is heated in the container with a heater. A filling adapter for in-drum drying of liquid radioactive waste includes a rectilinear, preferably cylindrical steel casing with end regions, an outer periphery, a flange protruding past the outer periphery at one of the end regions, at least two connection points at another of the end regions, and a filling line extending from one of the connection points through the steel casing.

A process for handling liquid radioactive waste includes evaporating liquid radioactive waste with condensation of vapors; refilling the waste during the evaporation; and measuring a condensate quantity and controlling the refilling with the measure of the condensate quantity. A device for handling liquid radioactive waste includes a device for evaporating liquid radioactive waste with condensation of vapors; a device for refilling the waste during the evaporation; a measuring vessel for collecting condensate; a valve for controlled drainage of the condensate from the measuring vessel; and a device connected to the valve for determining the condensate quantity removed from said measuring vessel. The device for determining the condensate quantity removed controls the refilling of the waste in accordance with the condensate quantity removed.

A device for handling liquid radioactive waste includes a heater for heating and drying liquid radioactive waste being poured into a container. A pallet, which is preferably formed of metal, receives the container. A ground vehicle transports the pallet. A supplementary heater is part of the pallet.

Mixing device for embedding biologically harmful wastes in a solidifying binder, includes a tubular housing, an assembly of a pre-mixer, a pass-through mixer and a discharge pump having rotatingly movable parts disposed along a common rotational axis and in substantially vertical direction within the tubular housing, and a drive motor mounted at the upper end of the assembly for rotating the movable parts in common, the movable part of the pre-mixer being centrically disposed in the housing, and the movable part of the discharge pump being eccentrically disposed with play in the housing.
