A lightweight, high stiffness tennis racket includes a frame having a handle portion with butt end, head portion, and strings supported by the head portion. The racket is formed from a composite material including carbon fibers, titanium fibers, and epoxy resin and includes a length of at least about 27 inches, weight of less than about 9.2 ounces when strung, and a frequency of vibration of the first mode of bending under free-free constraint of at least about 175 Hz. The racket includes a vibration damping unit located about at the racket handle.

This invention provides for a racquetball racquet combining enhanced ball acceleration, high precision, and comfort. These optimum characteristics are achieved though a racquetball racquet having, in combination, an overall length of between 500 mm and 580 mm, an unstrung weight of between 140 g and 195 g, a head weight of between 52% and 65% of the overall racquet weight, and a center of gravity located between 25 mm relative to the racquet head handle end and 75 mm relative to the distal head end, measured along the longitudinal axis of the racket. The longitudinal strings of the racquetball racquet extend from the racquet head handle end to the racket head distal end are arranged so as to diverge to form a V-configuration. Two neighboring longitudinal strings are each led to a common location on the racquet head handle end.

A tennis racket having a striking surface and a handle in combination has a strung total weight of less than 245 g, an overall length larger than 70 cm, a free-free vibrational frequency in the first mode of more than 210 Hz, a center of gravity of more than 41 cm, and a dynamic center of gravity of more than 50 cm, measured from the handle end.

A ski with a core and at least one upper and one lower surface layer. Grooves for receiving parts of a ski binding are recessed in the upper side of the core. The receiving parts each consist of a fixed holding part and an elastic sleeve surrounding the holding part. A spacer element rests on the receiving part, which spacer element is used as support for the base plate of a ski binding. In order to facilitate the mounting of the ski binding, each holding part has at least one upwardly bent section, with the upwardly bent section extending in the installed state of the receiving part at least to the underside of the upper surface layer of the ski.

Racquets, in particular tennis racquets

In a racquet, in particular, a tennis racquet, which incorporates a frame, an open or closed heart piece, and a shaft (2) that is joined to the heart piece, with the frame, heart piece and shaft being formed in one piece or connected releasably to each other, the grip (1) that is formed as a one-piece sleeve can be slid onto the shaft. The inside profile of the cross section of the grip (1) and the outside profile of the cross section of the shaft (2) incorporate longitudinal shape-locking and interacting supporting surfaces. The spacing between the supporting surfaces on the shaft (2) and the supporting surfaces of the grip (1) tapers in a wedge shape towards the unattached end (11) of the shaft (2). A removable distance piece (3) that prevents the grip (1) being slid axially into the mated position is releasably connected to the end (11) of the shaft. With the distance piece (3) installed on the shaft, the racquet can be tested with various grips (1). After removal of the distance piece (3) the grip is slid completely onto the shaft (2) and is then joined to the shaft so that, for all practical purposes, it cannot be released from the shaft.

A process for the production of a ball game racket frame, in particular a tennis racket, squash racket or badminton racket frame, with a head and a shaft, in which at least the head and/or the shaft is made of a fiber-reinforced plastic as a hollow body, an injectable matrix, optionally with a reinforcing fiber material and an inert gas under pressure, in particular N.sub.2, is injected into a mold to form the hollow space of the hollow body.

Process for the production of a ball game racket frame

A racket has a racket frame (1) and a handle portion provided with an outer shell embracing at least the racket frame. The outer shell, which is wear-resistent and made of tough synthetic plastic material, has at least one slot which has edges that can be connected with one another along mutually opposing edges. The outer shell can be a slotted tube or hose fitted onto the frame, or a pre-shaped outer shell corresponding to the outer contour of the frame with at least one slot, or an outer shell having at lest first and second shell portions (2, 3) that are at least partially embracing the racket frame to provide reliable protection at the edges or rounded areas of the frame.

A device for the protection of strings on the frame of a racket, such as for example, a tennis racket, comprises a band-like body which includes a plurality of tubular sleeves spaced a distance corresponding to the distance of bores in the frame of the racket. The band-like body further includes a peripheral groove which groove is in open connection with the tubular sleeves. The strings are placed into the peripheral groove and are strung through the tubular sleeves. The band-like body has protruding wall parts located on the side of the groove facing the tubular sleeves, which wall parts are connected with lateral parts of the body that overlap the frame. The protruding wall parts close the peripheral groove so that the strings lie protected within the peripheral groove.
