Further provided are methods of making the curable fluoropolymers and for making an article containing the curable polymers.

Peroxide curable fluoropolymers obtainable by polymerization with non-fluorinated emulsifiers

Provided are methods for removing a perfluorinated alkanoic acid from solutions containing the perfluorinated alkanoic acid and a fluorinated alkoxy acid. These methods include contacting the first solution with an anion-exchange resin to produce a second solution and a resultant anion-exchange resin having perfluorinated alkanoic acid adsorbed thereto, wherein the perfluorinated alkanoic acid is present in the first solution at a first concentration and is present in the second solution at a second concentration which is lower than the first concentration, and separating the second solution from the resultant anion-exchange resin.

Method for removing perfluorinated alkanoic acids

Described herein is a composition comprising (i) a hydrofluorothermoplastic polymer, wherein the hydrofluorothermoplastic polymer is derived from: (a) 50-85 mol % tetrafluoroethene; (b) 2-15 mol % hexafluoropropene; (c) 10-35 mol % vinylidene fluoride; and (d) 0.1 to 5 mol % of a bromine-containing monomer; and (ii) a perhalogenated thermoplastic polymer. Such compositions can be used in multilayer constructions in, for example, fuel hose applications.

Fluorothermoplastic polymer compositions

Described herein is a composition comprising a fluorothermoplastic polymer, wherein the fluorothermoplastic polymer is derived from: (a) 60-85 mol % tetrafluoroethene; (b) 2-12 mol % hexafluoropropene; (c) 10-30 mol % vinylidene fluoride; (d) 0.2 to 5 mol % of a bromine-containing monomer. Such compositions can be used in multilayer constructions in, for example, fuel hose applications.

Fluorothermoplastic polymer

Described are methods of making a curable fluoropolymer having repeating units derived from vinylidenfluoride (VDF) and at least one perfluorinated monomer selected from hexafluoropropene (HFP), tetrafluoroethene (TFE), a perfluorovinyl ether (PAVE), a perfluoroallylether (PAAVE) or a combination thereof. The method includes polymerizing the monomers in an aqueous medium in a radical reaction containing one or more reaction initiators, one or more chain transfer agent containing one or more halogens selected from iodine, bromine or a combination thereof and one or more non-fluorinated aliphatic polyhydroxy emulsifiers. The polymerization is carried out without adding a fluorinated emulsifier. Also provided are curable fluoropolymers obtainable by such methods and cured fluoropolymers obtainable by curing the curable fluoropolymers, and their applications.

A method of making a highly fluorinated polymers and resulting aqueous mixtures. The method comprising polymerizing one or more perfluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a perfluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula XC&#x2550;CX(CF)(CH)[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2212;[O&#x2014;(CX&#x2014;CX)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[CH]&#x2014;Y. The method also provides for isolating the highly fluorinated polymer and post-fluorinating the isolated highly fluorinated polymer.

Highly fluorinated polymers

A method of making a partially fluorinated polymer dispersions and resulting aqueous mixtures. The method comprising polymerizing one or more fluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a fluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula XC&#x2550;CX(CF)m(CH)n[O&#x2014;(CX)p]q-[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX&#x2014;CX)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;(CX)u]v-[CH]&#x2014;Y.

Partially fluorinated polymers

A method of making a highly fluorinated polymers and resulting aqueous mixtures. The method comprising polymerizing one or more perfluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a perfluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula XC&#x2550;CX(CF)(CH)[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX&#x2014;CX)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[CH]&#x2014;Y. The method also provides for isolating the highly fluorinated polymer and post-fluorinating the isolated highly fluorinated polymer.

A method for polymerizing, in an aqueous medium, at least one fluorinated monomer in the presence of a non-copolymerizable, non-fluorinated surfactant. The surfactant is generally selected from a non-ionic surfactant, a primary anionic surfactant, or a combination thereof. Fluorinated surfactants are not utilized. The resulting partially fluorinated polymer in the aqueous medium is either a semi-crystalline polymer or a crystalline polymer.

Fluoropolymer dispersion and method for making the same

In preparing a fluorinated thermoplastic with good flex life, high thermal conductivity and low average spherolite diameter from tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoro n-alkyl vinyl ether, perfluoro 2-propoxyalkyl vinyl ether is additionally incorporated into the fluorinated thermoplastic. A semicrystalline, thermoplastically processable copolymer is prepared, made from units of the tetrafluoroethylene, from 2 to 10% by weight of units of perfluoro n-propyl vinyl ether and from 0.1 to 6% by weight of units of perfluoro 2-propoxypropyl vinyl ether. The novel copolymer preferably contains fewer than 70 unstable end groups per 10 carbon atoms, has thermal conductivity of at least 0.19 W/mK at 23&deg; C. and has a smooth surface with an average spherolite diameter of <5 &mgr;m. The novel terpolymer is suitable for extrusion of hose, in particular for heat exchangers, and also for ultrahigh-purity applications.
