A gas-discharge lamp includes a discharge vessel, two electrodes, a cap, an outer envelope, and a filling of a metal halide. To improve the quality of the beam color, the outer envelope of the gas-discharge lamp is partially coated with an optical compensating filter of a color complementary to the color of the metal halide. By partially coating the outer envelope with the compensating filter, an unwanted coloration in the beam is corrected.

The invention relates to a headlight for a motor vehicle, to a lamp for the headlight, and to a headlight unit. The lamp has two coils and is capable of fulfilling widely differing functions. Means for screening off the light emitted by the coils in certain angular regions are arranged such that the regions illuminated by the coils overlap only slightly, preferably not at all. At least two reflector regions of the lamp are each illuminated by an associated coil, and are shaped such that one headlight emits two headlight beams, both having a substantially horizontal bright/dark cutoff.

A lamp has projecting stud and resilient elements configured to lock the lamp into a reflector housing upon insertion of the lamp into an opening of the reflector and rotation of the lamp. Electrical connection is also achieved through the rotation where transverse lamp contact elements are brought into engagement with corresponding contacts of the reflector housing.

Lamp and headlight for simple mounting

A discharge lamp and a headlight for a motor vehicle are proposed. A moving member is provided, which is movable between at least two positions, for switching over between different light distributions. It comprises at least one optically active element, preferably a lens, which generates an image of the gas discharge which is shifted away from the actual location thereof. A switch-over between two different light distributions is made possible by a movement of the moving member between the two positions in the headlight, such that the gas discharge seems to be shifted by the switch-over for a respective region of the reflector, whereby different light distributions are created. Preferably, the moving member is the outer bulb of the discharge lamp, on which two lenses are arranged and which is rotatable about the optical axis.

In a lighting system for motor vehicles, light from a HID or MPXL lamp is collected by a collector which surrounds the light source at least partly and is guided further to a separator of optical waveguide material, which separator forms a desired light beam via a specially shaped light outlet surface so as to obtain as high as possible a light output.

The invention relates to a gas discharge lamp, in particular a high-pressure discharge lamp for use in automobiles. The invention further relates to a lighting system with at least one light source, at least one light coupling system, at least one optical waveguide, and at least one light delivery system. Such lighting systems with a central light source and a distribution of the light over optical waveguides (i.e. suitable optical fiber systems) in remote locations are particularly suitable for applications in the automobile branch. For this application, a high brightness must be available already after a short run-up time of the lamp. To provide a gas discharge lamp with a high brightness, which makes available a sufficient brightness after a short period, a gas discharge lamp is proposed with a bulb which has an ellipsoidal discharge chamber in a central location, which chamber has a surface area with a maximum value of below 2.5 cm.sup.2, with two electrodes projecting into the discharge chamber which have an electrode interspacing Ea of 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm inside the discharge chamber, with a filling in the discharge chamber which is in a gas discharge state during operation of the lamp and has a filling density of 80 to 90 mg/cm.sup.3, with at least a mercury component in the filling which defines the filling density, and with an operating voltage between the electrodes in the discharge chamber of 80 to 90 V during lamp operation.
