To facilitate the fixing of attachments to the side walls of scraper-chain conveyors upstanding recesses are provided in the side walls in upper regions where the upper flanges merge with the side walls. The recesses, which can be milled, open from the upper flanges and have a depth less than the thickness of the side wall upper regions. The recesses are generally U-shaped as viewed from the exterior. The recesses are enlarged or undercut internally to be deeper all round so as to provide shaped pockets which exactly match the shape of non-circular heads of threaded elements which are received therein and fill the recesses.

Fixing of attachments to the side walls of the pans of scraper-chain

A conveyor channel section or pan is composed of upper and lower components each having U-shaped rolled side walls with inwardly-directed flanges and floor plates. Additional side plates fixed to the exteriors of the side walls of the lower component project upwardly alongside the side walls of the upper component. Recesses in the side plates mate with fittings on the side walls of the upper component and upstanding nuts and bolts secure the fittings in the recesses. The end regions of the pan can be provided with inclined deep pockets formed within welded-in shaped joining pieces which receive toggle-like coupling pieces used to connact adjacent pans together.

Channel sections of scraper-chain conveyors

A pan for a scraper-chain conveyor has sigma-shaped side walls and a floor plate extending between inwardly facing central flanges of the side walls. An opening is provided in the pan which interrupts the floor plate and an upper region of one of the side walls. A detachable unit is then inserted into the opening to close the latter. The unit has a plate portion matching the floor plate and a side portion matching the upper region of the interrupted side wall. A support on the outside of this side wall engages with a bar carried by the unit. To lock the unit in place securing which acts solely on the side portion and the remaining side wall of the pan is used.

Channel sections for scraper-chain conveyors

A scraper unit for a scraper-chain assembly is composed of a scraper bar which locates with a pair of coupling pieces at each of its ends. The coupling pieces trap chain links therebetween. The bar has pockets underneath its end regions which locate with the lowermost coupling pieces and recesses open from above which locate with the uppermost coupling pieces. Threaded pins which receive nuts are provided on the lower coupling pieces to engage through bores in the upper coupling pieces and the scraper bar end regions.

Scraper units for mine conveyor scraper-chain assemblies

A scraper-chain conveyor has a scraper-chain assembly composed of a pair of outboard chains with scapers therebetween. The assembly passes along upper and lower runs and the lower run is enclosed. Each scraper has an upstanding front face and a lower foot face perpendicular thereto. The foot face slides along a floor of the conveyor and a scraping edge between the front and lower faces transfers material in the upper run. To prevent fine material building up in the lower run, the scraper has a further scraping edge formed between the front face and an upper face generally parallel to the lower face. This further scraping edge slides along the base of the lower run.

Scrapers for scraper-chain conveyors

A drive frame for a scraper-chain conveyor comprises a pair of generally parallel side plates. A pair of aligned bearing bushes rotatably support a drive shaft of a chain drum. The bearing bushes are mounted in apertures in the side plates. The bearing bushes are welded to their respective side plates, thereby strengthening the drive frame.

Conveyor drive frame

A scraper-chain conveyor has channel-sections or pans arranged end-to-end along which a scraper-chain assembly is circulated. Each pan is composed of rolled side walls with a floor plate welded therebetween. The side walls are reinforced by upper and lower elongate bars welded to their exteriors. These bars have shaped apertures designed to accept and locate the heads and shanks of bolts used to fix attachments to the side walls. The side walls are recessed behind the apertures and these recesses define with the apertures, pockets for receiving the heads of the bolts.

Scraper-chain conveyors

A scraper-chain conveyor, for use in inclined mine workings, comprises a plurality of channel sections joined together end-to-end, and a scraper assembly. Each channel section has a pair of side walls interconnected by a floor plate. The scraper assembly comprises a plurality of scrapers connected to a drive chain. The side walls of the channel sections are shaped to define, together with the floor plates, three vertically-spaced, generally trapezoidal ducts. The uppermost and lowermost ducts provide guidance for the scrapers when the scrapers are respectively in their upper and lower runs. The middle ducts accommodate coupling members, such as toggle bolts, for connecting the channel sections together.

Scraper-chain conveyor

A scraper-chain conveyor channel section or pan has side walls interconnected by a floor plate. The underside of the pan along which the lower run of a scraper-chain assembly runs is covered over by a bottom plate which is easily detached. To fasten the bottom plate in position use is made of one or more shaped lateral regions on the bottom plate which engage in an open pocket formed inside a guide provided on the mineral face side wall of the pan. The shaped region or regions and the pocket permit the bottom plate to be swung away from the undersurface of the pan at an angle to permit withdrawal from the pocket. Releasable tension springs hold the bottom plate against the undersurface of the pan.

A scraper-chain conveyor comprises a series of pans joined end-to-end and a scraper-chain assembly circulated along the pans in upper and lower runs. Each of the pans is sub-divided into upper and lower sections of especially reinforced construction. The upper section of each pan is composed of shaped side pieces connected by a floor plate while the lower section is composed of smaller side pieces connected to a base plate. The side pieces of both the upper and lower sections combine to form sigma-shaped profiles with upper and lower flanges and inwardly-extending V-shaped intermediate portions. The lower section is built up vertically with side structures overlapping the side pieces of the upper section and bolted connections are established between the side structures and the upper section and with lateral accessories, such as barrier plates and guides. The side pieces of the upper and lower sections define lateral guide passages for the scraper-chain assembly and the guide passages for the lower run of the assembly are defined by both the side pieces of the upper and lower sections.

Scraper-chain conveyors for mineral mining

A scraper-chain conveyor has a scraper assembly and plurality of channel sections defining upper and lower runs for the scraper assembly. The scraper assembly passes round sprocket drums positioned at the ends of the conveyor, and is constituted by two drive chains and a plurality of scrapers connected thereto. The conveyor has first and second straight portions joined by a curved portion. The upper run of the curved conveyor portion is at a lower level than the upper run of the adjacent end of the first straight conveyor portion. The scraper assembly passes between the upper runs of said end of the first straight conveyor portion and the curved conveyor portion via upper and lower deflector rollers which direct the scraper assembly in a Z-shaped path. The upper deflector roller is provided with a drive, whereby the chain tension of the scraper assembly is negligible when the assembly passes round the curved portion.

A channel section for a scraper-chain conveyor has a lower trough-shaped part and an upper trough-shaped part detachably fixed thereto. The lower part is made of heavy-duty metal plate and supports a plough guide section. The upper part is made of light, rolled metal sections and is easily replaceable. The lower part has a pair of side walls welded to a base plate. The base plate has an extension which projects outwardly of the face-side side wall and toward the face being won. The extension constitutes a guide rail along which the plough can slide. A ramped cover plate is pivotally attached to the free end of one arm of an L-shaped plate. The other arm of the L-shaped plate is welded to the face-side side wall so that the plate overlies the guide rail. The guide rail constitutes the plough guide section together with the cover plate and its support plate.

Scraper-chain conveyor channel section

A scraper assembly for a scraper chain conveyor includes a scraper and a locking member connected together by bolts. The scraper and the locking member are formed with cooperating shaped parts which define a bed for a link of the chain of the conveyor. The bolts are inclined at an acute angle to the plane of said bed.

Scraper assembly for a scraper chain conveyor

A scraper unit for a scraper-chain assembly is composed of a one-piece scraper with extensions at the ends of its main body for engagement with horizontal links of the chains. The extensions have underside recesses which locate the shanks of the horizontal links and external cavities which locate the vertical links joined to these horizontal links. Deep vertical profiled pockets in the scraper end regions receive and shape-lock coupling pieces which encompass the inner shanks of the horizontal links and project laterally across the links, i.e., parallel to the scraper. The coupling pieces can be permanently joined to the links or detachable therefrom. The coupling pieces have tongues which support beneath the outer shanks of the horizontal links. Nuts engage on fixing bolts or the like projecting through both the scraper and the coupling pieces enabling the scraper to be detached. Where the coupling pieces are detachable they have additional threaded pins engaging in bores in the scraper and receiving nuts.

Scraper chain assemblies

A drive station or machine frame assembly for a scraper-chain conveyor has a convertible frame with side walls between which a drive drum for the associated scraper-chain assembly is mounted. The frame has first and second plates arranged one above the other and extending between the side walls. The uppermost plate is detachable whereas the lowermost plate is fixed. Both plates are inclined and can form part of an ascending conveying surface prolonged by using one or more channel structure with side walls and a floor plate aligned with the plate of the frame which is used. The uppermost plate is used with a larger-size drive drum and can be removed to expose the lowermost plate for use with a smaller-size drive drum. Known forms of tongue or guide plates and chain deflectors can be mounted to the frame.
