In the ceramic insulating block for halogen lamps, which has a shallow channel with a re-entrant projection at its exit side, the insulating block (1) is provided at the entry side (9) of the shallow channel (2) with a recess (10) having a bell-shaped contour. The apex (11) of the recess extends towards the exit side (4) of the shallow channel (2). The recess has an apex height H.sub.s of .ltoreq.40%, an apex radius R.sub.s of .ltoreq.20% of the height H of the insulating block (1) and a base radius R.sub.B of between 140% and 60% of R.sub.S.

For producing moldings composed of cordierite, a batch, which gives the composition of cordierite and contains clay and/or kaolin as well as soapstone and/or talc and also water and an organic aid, is subjected to shear mixing. For this purpose, the batch is placed between 2 bodies, which are at a small distance and move relative to one another, and at the same time the batch is subjected to a shear stress. Preferably, the batch is filled into the gap formed by 2 almost touching cylindrical shear rollers which rotate at different speeds or run in opposite directions. The batch is then deformed to give a molding, and the molding is fired until the cordierite phase is formed. Cordierite bodies of very low coefficients of thermal expansion (for example at most 1.1.times.10.sup.-6 /.degree.C. in all three spatial directions) can be obtained.

The stability of the frequency and/or the efficiency of a laser ultimately depends on the constancy of the resonator length. To ensure this demand the resonator elements are mounted on holders supported by longitudinal stabilizer bars, with the holders and bars being made of ceramic material.

A process for the leakproof joining of a ceramic sealing disk, which regulates the passage of a fluid, and metallic attachments which are presented to the disk, wherein a roughly finished ceramic disk is metallized at the points that are to be joined to the metallic attachment (for example, a copper pipe with flanged-on collar) and soldered at the metallized points to the metallic attachment. The metallic attachment may also be joined to the ceramic sealing disk without prior metallization if an active solder is used. In one embodiment, the sliding and sealing face is produced on the side of the disk facing away from the metallic attachment by grinding and/or lapping and/or polishing. Alternatively, the sliding and sealing face can also be first produced on the roughly finished sealing disk by grinding and/or lapping and/or polishing and joined to the metallic attachment by applying the metallization and soldering, or by active soldering, and then cooling at a rate of more than 30 K/min.
