The present invention relates to a work station for a packaging machine, comprising an upper tool and a lower tool arranged below the upper tool. These tools are configured for acting on a packaging web. A lifting unit is able to move the upper tool and/or the lower tool such that, at a specific position, the two tools abut on one another or are only spaced apart at a small distance. According to the present invention, the two tools are adapted to be coupled to one another by a releasable coupling at this position so that they can be removed from the work station in common. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for removing a lower tool from a work station, e.g. for the purpose of tool exchange.

A method for producing a package with the following steps is described. Forming of a container () in a web of a first web material (); subsequent sealing of a cover () onto the container produced within an outer contour of the package to be produced; and thereafter cutting of the container () out of the first web material () along the outer contour of the package to be produced and outside of an outer contour of the cover () sealed thereon.

A deep-drawing packaging machine () includes a forming station () for forming containers () in a first web-like material (), an insertion section () for inserting products () which reach at least one sealing level () or project over it, and a sealing station () arranged downstream thereof in a working direction (R) which is embodied to seal a second web-like material () onto the containers (). A method for producing a package with an inner volume of the package containing a headspace volume and a volume taken by the product, and a packaging machine. To allow the reduction of the size of such a package, the package is formed providing a product to be packaged inside the package; providing a tray with its height being smaller than the maximum height of the product; placing the product into the tray; replacing the atmosphere surrounding the product by a gas mixture of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen; covering the tray containing the product by a formable sheet material; forming the formable sheet material and sealing tray together with the formable sheet material, so that the headspace volume containing the gas mixture makes at most half of the volume taken by the product inside the package.

A method for packaging a good by means of a package formed of a shrinkable lower filmand an upper filmis provided. The lower film may be deep-drawn to form a container for accommodating the good, and after filling in the good, an upper film may be supplied for covering. The such-formed package is sealed and then may be subjected to shrinking in an evacuating and sealing station. Consecutively to the evacuating and sealing, an additional shrinking may be performed by subjecting the package to heat from all sides, so as to remove the film section having developed between the part of the lower and the upper film directly resting against the good and the sealing rim. A corresponding device for executing the method is indicated.
