The invention relates to an external door handle consisting of a support (), which is fixed to a door () and on which a handle () is mounted. In an unlocked position the handle acts on a lock and is inactive in the locked position of said lock. A capacitive sensor is provided to trigger the control of the lock, said sensor comprising an external electrode that is equipped with a sensor surface () and is located in the outer region of the door handle. A method for detecting the application of an operator's body part to an operating point of a locking device for a motor vehicle is performed by first detecting the proximity of the operator's body part to the operating point via a proximity sensor. A change in the pressure exerted on the operating point by the operator's body part is detected using a mechanical sensor which is arranged on the operating point. An output signal, which indicates the application of the operator's body part, is generated by an evaluation circuit as a function of the sensor output signals from the proximity sensor and the mechanical sensor. When the evaluation circuit detects the beginning of the application of the operator's body part on the basis of the sensor output signal from the mechanical sensor, a sensor output signal value which is output at approximately the same time by the proximity sensor is detected. This is used to evaluate the subsequent changes in the sensor output signal in order to be able to detect in a more reliable manner that the operator's body part has been withdrawn from the operating point. Sensor arrangement for a motor-vehicle locking device and an associated method

An electronic steering lock includes a power supply control unit and a locking assembly. The power supply control unit provides a supply voltage for locking the assembly via a ground supply line and a voltage supply line. The locking assembly is only supplied with a supply voltage and ground when a voltage with respect to ground is present on an ignition supply line, which is indicative of the ignition being switched off. The locking assembly includes a locking motor supplied with voltage and ground, whereby the ground supply of the locking motor is provided via a ground supply switching device. The locking assembly further includes a control circuit which controls the ground supply switching device. The control circuit produces a control signal which opens the ground supply switching device when the voltage on the additional input connection is indicative of the ignition being switched on.

Electronic steering lock

The invention relates to a closing system comprising handles () for operating latches that are inoperative when in a locked position, and only enable the latch to open when the latch is in an unlocked position. In conjunction with an access authorization device, the approaching of a hand to the handle () can be sensed in advance by a capacitive sensor thus enabling a very early reversing of the latch into the respectively desired position. To this end, two electrodes () are integrated inside the handle (), and a shielding () is located between these electrodes. One electrode () generates an inner field () between the handle () and the vehicle () and, with the vehicle body, acts as a capacitive inner sensor. The other electrode (),however, generates an outer field () with regard to the surrounding area of the vehicle. When, during normal use of the handle (), the hand passes into the area of the inner field (), a first function in the latch or vehicle is carried out. In contrast, when the hand is brought towards the handle () from the outside, the dielectric properties in the outer field () are altered thereby leading to a second function in the latch or vehicle.

A motor vehicle door handle includes a grip area and an electronics module arranged inside the grip area. A plastic injection moulded carrier core extends inside the motor vehicle door handle. The electronics module is arranged in a recess of the carrier core. A covering layer, which is made of plastic and which forms an outer wall of the motor vehicle door handle, is injected around the carrier core and the electronics module. Preferably, the carrier core is an injection moulded part having a foam structure, produced according to a MuCell method.
