The invention relates to a high frequency amplifier unit comprising several amplifier modules to amplify high frequency input signals into high frequency output signals and a coaxial combiner having an outer conductor and an inner conductor arranged coaxially to this to combine the high frequency output signals of the amplifier modules, wherein the amplifier modules are arranged on the outside of the outer conductor of the coaxial combiner and the amplifier modules are connected to the coaxial inner conductor of the coaxial combiner to transmit the high frequency output signals to the coaxial combiner. The invention additionally relates to an amplifier system.

High frequency amplifier unit having amplifier modules arranged on outer conductors

A particle beam therapy system including an accelerator for making a beam of charged particles available, a beam guiding unit supplying the beam to a treatment location starting from the accelerator, and at least one beam property monitor arranged along the beam path. A control unit communicates with the beam property monitor and guiding unit and determines deviations of actual properties from desired properties of the beam and transmits control signals for adapting the beam properties to the guiding unit, using said deviations. Precise beam guidance is achieved by arranging the beam property monitor on the periphery of the beam perpendicular to the beam path such that the beam properties are detected due to their direct interaction with particles of the beam in the halo region and/or indirectly by electromagnetic interaction. A method for a beam of charged particles in a particle beam therapy system is also disclosed.

A microwave cavity including a pair of opposing clamshell halves, such halves comprised of a metal selected from the group consisting of silver, copper, or a silver-based alloy, wherein the cavity is further characterized as exhibiting a dominant TE.sub.011 mode is provided together with an embodiment wherein the interior concave surfaces of the clamshell halves are coated with a superconductive material. In the case of copper clamshell halves, the microwave cavity has a Q-value of about 1.2.times.10.sup.5 as measured at a temperature of 10K and a frequency of 10 GHz.
