Nickel complexes containing ortho- or para-hydroxybenzoate anions and a non-ionic amine ligand are valuable light-stabilizers for polymers, particularly for polyolefins. The complexes may also contain a second carboxylate anion, different from the benzoate anion, and in this case also the amine-free nickel compounds show a high stabilizing action.

Nickel stabilizers for synthetic polymers

4-Siloxy derivatives of sterically hindered piperidines are effective light-stabilizers for plastics. These compounds have at least five alkyl groups in the ring positions 2, 3, 5 and 6 and four alkyl groups in ring positions 2 and 6, preferably methyl and ethyl groups. The ring nitrogen may be unsubstituted or substituted with a monovalent organic residue. The new compounds can be synthesized by O-silylation of 4-hydroxy-polyalkylpiperidines, preferably by reaction with chlorosilanes.

4-Siloxy-derivatives of sterically hindered piperidines are good light-stabilizers for organic polymers, especially for polyolefins. The stabilizers are added in an amount of from 0.01 to 5% by weight, preferably 0.02 to 1% by weight based on the polymer. The new compounds are obtainable by O-silylation of the corresponding 4-hydroxypiperidines.

Stabilizer system and its use for stabilizing styrene polymers

The incorporation of sterically hindered piperidine derivatives into polyurethanes protects this polymer material against light degradation. Usable for the incorporation are piperidine derivatives which are at least difunctional towards isocyanates and contain the structure ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 5 carbon atoms.

A process for stabilizing homo- or copolymeric polyolefins, especially polypropylene, with certain symmetrical or asymmetrical diacyl dihydrazides is disclosed, said diacyl dihydrazides possessing good color properties, and said process being particularly advantageous with respect to thermooxidative decomposition in the presence of transition metals.

New complexes of nickel salts of hydroxybenzoic acids are stabilizers for polymers. The complexes are prepared by reacting a nickel benzoate with a corresponding alcohol.

New 4,6-disalicyloyl-hydrazino-s-triazines are stabilizers for polyolefines. They are prepared by reacting 4,6-dihydrazino-s-triazines with salicylol chloride.
