Stable, pourable silicon dioxide dispersion, in which the average, number-related aggregate diameter of the silicon dioxide particles in dispersion is less than 200 nm, and which comprises at least 35 wt. % of a silicon dioxide powder, 3 to 35 wt. % of at least one polyol, 20 to 60 wt. % of water, 0 to 10 wt. % of an additive and a substance having an alkaline action in an amount such that a pH of 10&#x3c;pH&#x3c;12 is established. It can be prepared by a procedure in which silicon dioxide powder is introduced into water and a polyol in a rotor/stator machine, the pH being less than 5, and the mixture is dispersed until the current uptake of the rotor/stator machine is largely constant, and a substance having an alkaline action is subsequently added in an amount such that a pH of the dispersion of 10&#x3c;pH&#x3c;12 results, the substance having an alkaline reaction being added so rapidly that no gel formation takes place. It can be used as a component of a flame-retardant filling of hollow spaces between building components, in particular for insulating glass arrangements.

Alkali metal oxide-metal oxide mixed oxide powder in the form of aggregates of pore-free primary particles, comprising from 0.005 to 5% by weight of at least one alkali metal oxide, which has a BET surface area of from 100 to 350 m/g, has a specific DBP number, expressed as DBP number per square meter of specific surface area, greater than or equal to that of a powder which has only the metal oxide component, has the alkali metal oxide distributed in the core and on the surface of the primary particles. Pyrogenic silicon dioxide powder with a BET surface area of 30 to 90 m/g, a DBP index of 80 or less, a mean aggregate area of less than 25000 nmand a mean aggregate circumference of less than 1000 nm, wherein at least 70% of the aggregates have a circumference of less than 1300 nm. It is prepared by mixing at least one silicon compound in vapor form, a free-oxygen-containing gas and a combustible gas in a burner of known construction, igniting this gas mixture at the mouth of the burner and burning it in the flame tube of the burner, separating the solid obtained from the gas mixture and optionally purifying, wherein the oxygen content of the free-oxygen-containing gas is adjusted so that the lambda value is greater than or equal to 1, the gamma value is between 1.2 and 1.8, the throughput is between 0.1 and 0.3 kg SiO/mof core gas mixture and the mean normalized rate of flow of gas in the flame tube at the level of the mouth of the burner is at least 5 m/s. The powder can be used as a filler. A dispersion containing the powder according to the invention. The powder can be used as a filler in rubber, silicone rubber and plastics. The dispersion can be used to prepare glass items.

Pyrogenic silicon dioxide and a dispersion thereof

Pyrogenically produced aluminum-silicon mixed oxides with a BET surface of more than 300 m/g and a composition of 0.01 to 99.99% by wt. AIO, remainder SiOare produced in accordance with the method of flame pyrolysis or preferably flame hydrolysis by a joint combustion of the gaseous raw substances. They can be used to produce coating colors, especially for inkjet papers or inkjet foils or other inkjet materials.

Pyrogenically produced aluminum-silicon mixed oxides

Aqueous dispersion containing a silicon-aluminum mixed oxide powder, the powder containing 0.1 to 99.9 wt. % AlOand Si&#x2014;O&#x2014;Al-bonds. The dispersion can be produced using dispersing and/or grinding devices which a achieve an energy input of at least 200 KJ/m. The dispersion can be used for the chemical-mechanical polishing of semiconductor substrates.

Aqueous dispersion, process for its production and use

A layer which is obtained by thermal treatment from an aqueous dispersion applied to a substrate, the dispersion containing silicon/titanium mixed oxide powder prepared by flame hydrolysis. It is prepared by applying a dispersion which contains the silicon/titanium mixed oxide powder to a substrate and then sintering by using a thermal treatment. It can be used, for example, on materials with very low coefficients of expansion.

Pyrogenically prepared titanium dioxide doped by means of an aerosol contains an oxide from the group zinc oxide, platinum oxide, magnesium oxide and/or aluminium oxide as the doping component. It is prepared as follows: in the pyrogenic preparation of titanium dioxide, a metal salt solution is atomised to form an aerosol and injected into the production stream. The titanium dioxide may be used as a photocatalyst or as a UV adsorber or in processes for purification of waste water or waste air/gases.

Doped titanium oxides

Pyrogenically prepared silica doped with silver or silver oxide is prepared by feeding an aerosol into a flame such as is used for the preparation of pyrogenic silica, mixing the aerosol homogeneously with gas mixture before the reaction, then allowing the aerosol/gas mixture to react in a flame. The resulting pyrogenic silicas doped with silver or silver oxide are separated from the gas stream. The pyrogenic silica doped with silver or silver oxide by means of an aerosol can be used as a bactericidal filler.

Oxide particles with a doping component distributed in the core and a shell surrounding the core, which can be prepared by first introducing the doping into the core of a metal oxide or metalloid oxide via an aerosol in a pyrogenic process, subsequently coating the doped core with a salt solution of a metal or metalloid, drying it and optionally calcining it; which particles can be employed for chemical-mechanical polishing.

Coated doped oxides

Aqueous dispersion comprising silicon/titanium mixed oxide powder with a BET surface area of 5 to 500 m/g which has been prepared by flame hydrolysis and has a titanium dioxide content of 0.5 to 20 wt. %, based on the powder, water and at least one pH-regulating substance which can be removed completely from the reaction mixture on heating, the aqueous dispersion having a solids content of between 40 and 80 wt. %. A green body produced therefrom with a green density of between 40 and 85%. A shaped glass article of optical quality with a coefficient of thermal expansion of not more than 0.5&#xd7;10/K produced from the green body.

Supported catalyst for the production of vinyl acetate monomer

SiO &mdash;TiO glasses having a low coefficient of thermal expansion are produced by a molding being produced that consists of SiO powder, SiO &mdash;TiO powder or TiO powder and that contains by way of secondary component a titanium-containing component which is converted into amorphous TiO .

Metal oxide particles having a metal oxide core and a silicon dioxide coating have a low structure. The particle are produced by a base dissolved in water being added under agitation to a dispersion comprising a metal oxide, at least one compound of the type X Si(OR) , and water, the reaction product being separated out, optionally washed with water and dried. The metal oxide particles coated with silicon dioxide may be used in sun screening agents and in chemical-mechanical-polishing (CMP) applications.
