A handheld work apparatus has a drive motor () that is held in a motor housing (). At least one handle () is provided, with a vibration gap () being formed between the handle () and the motor housing (). The vibration gap () permits a relative movement between handle () and motor housing (). The handle () is connected to the motor housing () via at least one anti-vibration device () that bridges the vibration gap (). The anti-vibration device () has a longitudinal center axis (). The anti-vibration device () bridges the vibration gap () via at least one tension element. The anti-vibration device () also has a spring () arranged functionally in series with the tension element.

Handheld work apparatus

A manually guided implement, such as a power saw, a cut-off machine, or the like, having a drive motor for driving a tool of the implement. The drive motor has a drive shaft that is rotatably driven about an axis of rotation. The implement has a handle on which is disposed at least one control handle for the drive motor. Formed between the handle and the drive motor is a vibration space that is spanned by at least one anti-vibration element, at least one of which includes a coil spring, the longitudinal axis of which is disposed approximately perpendicular to a longitudinal plane of the implement. The vibration space is spanned by at least one connecting element, the longitudinal axis of which is inclined relative to a transverse plane of the implement that is disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal plane.

Manually guided implement

An antivibration element () is especially for a portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw or a brushcutter. The antivibration element includes a coil spring () and at least one guide. An end section () of the coil spring () is fixed to the guide. In order to provide a progressive characteristic line of the coil spring () in a simple way, the coil spring () has a transition section (), which borders at the end section () and is guided with play on the guide. When the coil spring is under load, the turns of the transition section come at least in part into contact engagement with a helically-shaped slot in the guide so that the spring stiffness of the antivibration unit increases.

Antivibration element

A manually operated implement such as a chain saw, a parting-off grinder or similar device has an internal combustion engine to drive a tool and a handle arrangement to operate the implement. The handle arrangement is connected to the internal combustion engine via a vibration damping system, the vibration damping system comprising at least one anti-vibration element. In order to achieve good vibration damping and sufficient operational rigidity in all operating ranges, in at least one direction of vibration in a predetermined frequency range the anti-vibration element has a first characteristic curve in a first state and a second characteristic curve in a second state and the anti-vibration element can be switched between the first state and the second state.

Manually operated implement

An antivibration device is mounted between a motor unit () having an internal combustion engine () and a vibration-insulated unit () of a portable handheld work apparatus () such as a motor-driven chain saw, cutoff machine, suction/blower apparatus or the like. The antivibration device () includes a vibration damper () made of foamed elastic material ().

Antivibration device

A portable work apparatus, especially a motor-driven chain saw ( ), has a drive unit which is provided with a handle housing ( ). The handle housing ( ) includes an extension ( ) which extends in the longitudinal direction of the work apparatus from a rearward handle ( ) on the side facing away in the longitudinal direction from a guide bar ( ) forward to the side facing toward the guide bar ( ). The handle housing ( ) is connected via antivibration elements to the drive unit. Portable work apparatus

A vibration damper is disposed between two components ( ) of a portable handheld work apparatus ( ). The vibration damper is held especially between a housing ( ), which holds an internal combustion engine ( ), and a handle ( ) which is fixed on the housing ( ) for guiding the work apparatus ( ). The vibration damper includes a coil spring ( ) and respective attachment elements ( ) at the ends ( ) of the coil spring. A coupling member ( ) is provided to ensure that the work apparatus can be guided notwithstanding a break of a coil spring. The coupling member ( ) projects through the coil spring ( ) and bridges the axial distance ( ) between the attachment elements ( and ). The coupling member ( ) is connected to each attachment element ( ) so that it cannot separate therefrom.

vibration damper between two components

The invention relates to a portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw having an internal combustion engine mounted in a housing for driving a work tool. A cooling-air blower is mounted on one side of the housing. The cooling-air blower is covered by a blower cover having air-intake openings. The blower cover has a bearing lug facing toward the cooling-air blower. A pull-rope starter for starting the engine is held on the bearing lugs and the housing of the pull-rope starter is attached to the blower cover. The pull-rope starter housing is configured as a component separate from the blower cover in order to minimize the disturbance of the cooling-air inflow by the pull-rope starter housing. This component is attached at a spacing to the air-intake openings of the blower.

Portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw

The invention is directed to a portable handheld work apparatus including a motor-driven chain saw, cutoff machine and the like. The work apparatus includes a housing and an internal combustion engine mounted in the housing for driving a work tool. The housing defines a space from which said engine draws combustion air and a fan wheel is disposed in the housing for generating a cooling-air flow which leaves the fan wheel in a direction tangential to the periphery of the fan wheel for cooling the engine. The housing has a U-shaped channel for conducting the cooling-air flow. The U-shaped channel is disposed so as to face toward the fan wheel with the base wall thereof being disposed at a predetermined spacing from the periphery of the fan wheel. The U-shaped channel has a pass-through formed in the base wall at a pregiven spacing downstream from the fan wheel for passing a portion of the cooling-air flow to the space as combustion air for the engine. The pass-through defines a plane and a center axis perpendicular to the plane. The U-shaped channel is configured to impart a predetermined direction of flow to the cooling-air flow at the region of the pass-through and the center axis and the predetermined direction of flow conjointly define an angle .beta. having a value in a range of approximately 70.degree. to 180.degree..

Portable handheld work apparatus

A muffler, especially for a portable internal combustion engine, particularly for driving a motor chain saw, which muffler comprises an exhaust gas receiving chamber which is defined by a chamber wall and by a pan-shaped housing wall including an inlet for the exhaust gases. Arranged on the inside surface of the chamber wall there is arranged an exhaust gas conveying passage communicating with the exhaust gas chamber and being adapted to deflect an exhaust gas current by preferably 90.degree.. This passage is adapted to convey the thus deflected exhaust gas current through an aperture in the chamber wall. Above this aperture on the outside of the chamber wall and projecting therefrom there is provided a bend from which the exhaust gas current through an outlet in the bend flows at least approximately parallel to a portion of the chamber wall. Furthermore, transverse to the out-flow direction of the exhaust current and spaced from the last mentioned outlet at least one turbulence creating member is provided for creating turbulence in the exhaust current having passed through the outlet.

Muffler, especially for portable internal combustion engine

Disclosed is an exhaust silencer suitable for use with portable combustion engines, and particularly for use with chain saw engines, comprising a chamber having an inlet and outlet for receiving the engine exhaust; means disposed about the chamber outlet for reducing the kinetic energy of the exhaust flowing therethrough; and an air duct means mounted exteriorly of the chamber below the chamber outlet for cooling the chamber, the kinetic energy reducing means, and the exhaust gas by contact with a stream of ambient air flowing therethrough.
