Described is a clearcoat coating composition, its use, and a process for preparing the clearcoat coating composition. The clearcoat coating composition comprises (A) at least one polyester having an OH number of 80-250 mg KOH/g; (B) at least one butanol-etherified melamine-formaldehyde resin having a crosslinking onset temperature between 65&#xb0; C.-100&#xb0; C. lower than the crosslinking onset temperature of hexamethoxy-methylmelamine; (C) at least one butanol-etherified melamine-formaldehyde resin having a crosslinking onset temperature between 30&#xb0; C.-60&#xb0; C. lower than the crosslinking onset temperature of hexamethoxymethylmelamine; (D) at least one organic urea compound as rheological assistant; and (E) at least one acid catalyst.

A thixotroping agent comprising a reaction product of a isocyanto-containing compound and an amine. The isocyanto-containing compound comprises at least one of Ia) at least one isocyanate with at least one diisocyanate structural unit that has an unsaturated/aromatic or non-aromatic ring structure with 5-10 ring atoms and two isocyanate groups that are bound to the ring structure; Ib) at least one oligomer of the isocyanate Ia) with 2 to 10 isocyanate units; and Ic) at least one partially blocked isocyanate Ia) and/or at least one partially blocked oligomer Ib).
