A printing group of a rotary printing press includes at least one forme cylinder and at least one transfer cylinder. The forme cylinder has at least two printing forme end channels. These two channels are spaced circumferentially. At least one of these forme cylinder end receiving channels rolls off against a channel in the transfer cylinder. One of the forme cylinder end receiving channels is at least partially covered by a printing forme carried by the forme cylinder.

A printing unit consists of at least two printing groups, which are placed vertically above each other, in a printing machine. Each of the printing groups includes a printing cylinder, an inking unit with at least one inking roller, a dampening unit with several dampening rollers arranged in a line, and a transfer cylinder that cooperates with the printing cylinder. The inking cylinder and the dampening roller, in an operational state in which they are adjacent the printing cylinder, form an obtuse opening angle with the printing cylinder. The rollers of the dampening unit are arranged with at least the first and last rollers in the roller train arranged inside an acute angle depending from the transfer cylinder. A horizontal line extending from the transfer cylinder defines an opening angle of less than 45&#xb0; with the rollers of the dampening unit. A printing forme is fed to the printing cylinder through an obtuse angle between the dampening roller and the inking roller.

A printing group of a rotary printing press includes at least one forme cylinder and at least one transfer cylinder. The forme cylinder has at least two printing forme end receiving channels. A printing couple in a printing machine is comprised of at least three cylinders, a forme cylinder, a transfer cylinder and a counter-pressure cylinder. The counter-pressure cylinder forms a printing location or point in cooperation with the transfer cylinder. The transfer cylinder is mounted in at least one lever which can be pivoted about an eccentrically pivoting axis in relation to the rotational axis of the forme cylinder. When the three cylinders are in a print position, a connecting plane through the axis of rotation of the forme cylinder and the pivoting axis of the lever forms an angle of between 25&#xb0; and 65&#xb0; with a plane through the axis of rotation of the cylinder forming the printing point.

A printing group, which includes at least one rotation element, that can be rotated about its longitudinal direction, and than can also be displaced axially, includes a drive. That drive for the rotational element can be a drive motor which is independent of the drive of the printing group cylinders. The drive can be effected through a rotationally fixed and coaxially linked drive wheel, and a flexible drive. In order to achieve a lateral travel of the rotational element, the printing group is provided with a supplementary drive motor.

A cylinder for a rotary printing press is supported by bearings that are situated outside of the spaced side frames of the press. Each bearing is arranged in a bearing bushing that is, in turn supported by the press lateral frame. All of the bearing is located away from the lateral frame.

A rubber blanket is provided with reinforcement rails on one or both of its ends. These reinforcement rails are positionable in a narrow channel in a rubber blanket cylinder. The reinforcement rail or rails extend beyond the ends of the channel. Rubber blanket cylinder tensioning devices engage the extending ends of the rubber blanket reinforcement parts.

A plurality of inking blade plates are positioned in abutting fashion between cooperating insertion and clamping strips to form an inking blade. A temperature differential is created between the blade plates and the strips which are then allowed to return to a common temperature. This creates a uniform spacing between each of the inking blade plates in the inking blade. The resulting inking blade is usable with an ink ductor roller in a rotary printing press.

A tower printing unit is formed using a plurality of bridge printing units, each of which has two opposing individual printing units. Ink roller trains in vertically alternating ones of these bridge printing units are oriented either vertically or horizontally. The resultant tower printing unit is more compact and efficient.

Damage to rotating cylinders in a web-fed rotary printing machine, due to breaks or tears in the material web passing through the machine, is prevented by providing a web guide roller with a directionally switched coupling intermediate two spaced gripping locations. If the web breaks, the web guide roller becomes positively driven and prevents web roll up on one of the rotating cylinders.

A web-fed rotary printing assembly includes first and second printing couples. Each printing couple has upper and lower printing pairs of plate cylinders and blanket cylinders. An impression cylinder is pivotably supported cooperatively with the blanket cylinder of the first printing couple. Each of the blanket cylinders is also pivotably supported. This assembly allows the press to perform perfecting as well as being suitable as an imprinter. Flying plate changes may also be accomplished.
