An endoscope system includes a radiation source which emits a modulated radiation and is applied in a manner such that an object to be examined by an endoscope may be illuminated with the radiation. A sensor is provided for detecting the radiation reflected by the object,at at least one picture point. An evaluation device obtains readings of the detected radiation from the sensor, determines phase differences on the basis of these readings, and computes the distance of the object to the sensor device on the basis of these phase differences. A corresponding supplementary module for an endoscope and endoscope optics with these features are also provided.

The sample taker comprises a hollow shank with a scoop fixedly connected at its distal end, a handling means provided at the proximal end of the 20 hollow shank and an actuation mechanism. An actuation rod is axially movable in the hollow shank and connectable to the actuation mechanism. A covering is allocated in the trough of the scoop. The covering is fastened to a distal end of the actuation rod and displaceable forwards and backwards.

A spreading laryngoscope is provided with two spatulas able to be moved apart, wherein on at least on of the two spatulas on each longitudinal side there is formed at least one projecting tab. The at least one tab on each side proceeds from the longitudinal side of the one spatula, extends to the other spatula, and is rigidly connected to the one spatula from which it proceeds.

The target apparatus for positioning a drilling tool with respect to a drilling channel to be created in a bone consists of a target hook and a guide arm which is releasably connected to this and on which there is arranged a receiver for the drilling tool, and a guide path in the form of a laterally through-going open groove for the guide arm. The guide arm may be displaced and fixed in the guide path. A simple assembly and disassembly of the apparatus is achieved in that the guide arm on the side of the apparatus is applied into the guide path through the groove opening and reversely, by lifting away out of the groove, may be separated from the target hook.

Target apparatus

The instrument serves for the application in particular of bone grafts in the space between two vertebrae and includes a shank, a handle, and a holder for the implant, which forms the distal instrument part. The holder is pivotably mounted relative to the shank and can be fixed in any respective position which is reached by pivoting.

A cutter for removing tissue has a cutter head, a cutter shank which carries the cutter head and to which the cutter head is connected in a rotationally fixed manner, and a drive driving the cutter shank. For adjustability of the effectiveness of the cutter with the removal of cartilaginous or bony tissue parts, there is provided a first rotatable sleeve which comprises an inner bore arranged eccentrically to the middle axis of this sleeve, and a second stationary sleeve arranged in the inner bore of the first sleeve and which for passage of the cutter shank comprises an inner bore arranged eccentrically to the middle axis of the second sleeve.

An endoscopic instrument for the therapy of the heart muscle forming channels in the heart muscle tissue by way of laser energy and including a shank tube and at least one instrumentation channel for a laser fiber disposed in axial direction within the shank tube as well as central optics parallel to the laser fiber for observing the locus of treatment. The distal end of the shank tube may be connected to a vacuum source and is designed such that the heart muscle can be restrained by partially suctioning the same against the shank end.

An endoscope, in particular a mediastinoscope, in which the handle and the optics guided therein form an inseparable unit and which includes a first and second spatula-like part which can be separated from one another in the longitudinal direction. An adjusting mechanism is provided which permits a separation, a fastenable displacement parallel to the axis and a fastenable pivoting of the two parts relative to one another. In particular by way of the pivotability an expansion of a body cavity to be visually examined or which is to undergo therapy by way of introduced auxiliary instruments is made possible according to requirements.

The endoscopic instrument for introducing elongate medical assisting devices into the body of a patient comprises an elongate shank which is provided at its proximal end with a handle for the instrument, whereby the shank comprises at least one recess for receiving and guiding an elongate assisting device, said recess beginning distally and extending at least partly along said shank's length. For improving the introduction of the assisting device into the body of the patient the shank is surrounded by a hollow outer shank which comprises at least one longitudinal slit extending from its distal end along at least a part length of the outer shank, whereby the outer shank is twistable or distally displaceable over the inner shank for overlapping the recess of said inner shank, and can be positioned in the overlapping position.

Endoscopic instrument

An instrument for positioning operating tubes in endoscopic operations. A distally pointed cannula tube serves as a guiding probe for introduction into a patient's body so that the distal end is disposed closely proximate the operating site, and carries a handle that is removably attached to the cannula tube proximal end. The cannula tube is hollow for receiving therethrough a mandarin. The mandarin and tube handle are removed from the cannula tube once the tube is inserted into the patient's body, thus leaving only the cannula tube extending into the body of the patient to serve as a guiding probe for one or more operating tubes.

Method and apparatus for positioning operating tubes

An endoscopic instrument is disclosed which comprises a shank with a bendable region. The bendability is achieved by almost complete circumferential transverse recesses which form segments bendable to each other. To increase the robustness of the shank, the segments, at their free ends, are provided with guides which engage a neighbouring recess and are adapted to the contour of the shank. Furthermore in the lateral regions of the shank there are incorporated positive locking elements, which prevent the overloading of the shank on over-extension.

The invention relates to an instrument for endoscopic therapy. A cutting tool including a rigid tubular shank is so guided within a tubular longitudinally slotted instrument shank having an essentially oval inner cross section, that the cutting tool may be tilted out of the axis of the instrument shank, whereby a cutter of the cutting tool penetrates the longitudinal slit of the instrument shank and projects beyond the diameter of the instrument shank. In this way by varying the tilting angle of the cutting tool the cutting depth of the cutting tool may be delicately set.

An electric motor drive unit for surgical tools, in which a drive consisting of a motor or motor gear unit is connected to, and electrically insulated from a clutch for the tool by a shaft, and in which the drive as well as current-carrying components are electrically insulated from a housing which accomodates said drive and current-carrying components. To achieve an electrical isolation of the current-carrying components from the tool and the gripping surface of the housing, the shaft, at least over part of its length, is made from an insulating material and runs through a seal which is supported in the housing and sealingly divides the housing into a first and second chamber, of which the first chamber accomodates the drive and the second chamber accomodates the clutch for the tool, said tool being inserted into a distal opening in the housing in the second chamber and connectable to the clutch.
