A sealing strip for attachment to the window frame running around a window opening on a vehicle door is in two parts each made of extruded plastics or rubber material and incorporating metal reinforcements. One part fits over a flange forming part of the window frame and locks into a channel formed in the frame. This part also has a reinforced lip which defines a channel for receiving the window glass. The reinforcement enables this lip to be relatively thin, thus achieving a 'flush glass' effect. The other extruded part embraces a flange and has a lip for sealing against the window glass.

Sealing strips

A pillar for dividing the window frame carried by a vehicle door into a small part incorporating a fixed pane of window glass and a large part incorporating a vertically slidable pane of window glass comprises a metal strut supporting an extruded plastics or rubber part. The latter defines vertical channels for respectively receiving the fixed and slidable window panes. The central portion of the plastics or rubber part covers the surface of the strut facing outwardly of the vehicle and is on the same order of thickness as each of the window panes, thus giving a 'flush glass' effect. It is reinforced by an embedded metal strip. The surface of the strut which faces inwardly of the vehicle is exposed and may be painted or otherwise decorated.

Window sealing and guiding arrangements

A sealing strip, such as for a motor vehicle body, comprises a base having wings which are integrally attached to a central portion by means of thinned-down regions permitting relative flexure. The wings and the central portion are preferably made of relatively hard plastics or rubber material. A tubular sealing section, of sponge or similar material, is integrally attached to the central portion. The wings carry layers of adhesive preferably covered with tear-off covering. The strip is fixed in position by placing the underside of the central portion over the distal edge of the door flange and then bending down the wings so as to press the adhesive into contact with the sides of the flange.

Sealing and trimming strips

A windscreen mounting arrangement for a motor vehicle comprises an integral extrusion defining to channels facing in opposite directions. One channel grips a flange surrounding the windscreen opening, and the windscreen glass is fitted into the other channel. After that, a stiffening member is placed in a groove in the extrusion to hold the glass in position. A metal reinforcing carrier embedded in the extrusion has a channel-shaped portion embracing one channel and an integral sideways extension which is embedded within the material defining the base of the other channel. This sideways extension facilitates initial fitting of the windscreen mounting arrangement onto the flange and stabilizes the mounting arrangement when it is bent to follow curves in windscreen openings.

Glazing supports

A channel-shaped sealing strip comprises a channel-shaped metal core or carrier completely embedded in flexible plastics or rubber material which additionally defines gripping lips on the two opposite inside wall surfaces of the channel and running longitudinally along the strip. There are four relatively small such lips on one inside wall surface which are substantially equidistantly spaced from each other and the first or outermost one of which runs along the distal edge of its wall surface adjacent the mouth of the channel. There are two relatively larger such lips on the opposite inside wall surface. A soft rubber seal may be attached to the outside surface of the strip. The arrangement of the lips stabilises the strip against rocking or wobbling on a flange (e.g. a motor vehicle body flange around a door opening on which the strip may be mounted in use).
