In a venting system, in particular for a fuel tank of a motor vehicle, which has a sorption filter for temporarily storing fuel evaporating from the fuel tank and a fluid-conveying conveying device situated between the sorption filter and an air supply or an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine, according to the present system, the conveying device is a bidirectional conveying device which is switchable in a first conveying direction in the direction of the internal combustion engine for regenerating the sorption filter and in a second conveying direction in the direction of the sorption filter for carrying out a fuel tank leak diagnosis.

Venting system, in particular for a fuel tank

A device for selectively regenerating and performing tank leakage diagnosis of a tank ventilation system has a sorption filter and a pump. The sorption filter is configured to temporarily store fuel evaporating from a fuel tank. The pump is arranged at a fresh-air side of the sorption filter and is connected in fluid-conducting fashion to the sorption filter. The pump is configured to generate a fluid flow to regenerate the sorption filter.

Device for selectively regenerating or performing tank leakage diagnosis of a tank ventilation system

A sensor is provided, in particular a gas sensor for determining the concentration of a gas component in a measuring gas, which has a sensor element that projects from a housing by a measuring-gas-side end section exposed to the measuring gas, and a sheath tube having gas passageways, which is placed over the measuring-gas-side end section and affixed on the housing. To prevent condensation of water vapor contained in the measuring gas in the measuring space enclosed by the housing and the sheath tube, and thus the production of water droplets that reach the hot sensor element, sheath tube and/or sensor element are/is thermally decoupled from the housing. The thermal decoupling is produced using, for instance, a flange sleeve made of a material having poor thermal conductivity, which separates the sheath tube from the housing by a flange and, via a sleeve section, is inserted in the space between the housing and the measuring-gas-side end section of the sensor element.

A starting device for an internal combustion engine includes a switching control device for controlling a starter motor. At least one power switching module connects the starter motor to a voltage source and is activated via an assigned control line. A control electronics is provided for controlling the at least one power switching module. A release device which records the power flow of the internal combustion engine makes available, as a function of the running of the internal combustion engine, a release signal for the release of the activating switching procedure by the at least one control line. The release device includes a first release switching channel that works independently of the control electronics and a second release switching channel that cooperates with control electronics. These are set up in such a way that an initiation of the activating switching procedure takes place only during the simultaneous release switching setting of the two release switching channels. A diagnosis device of the switching control device, at the ending of making available the release signal for the activating switching procedure by the release device, records the release switching setting of the first release switching channel. This makes possible the monitoring of the function of the first release switching channel, which increases the safety of the starting procedure. A method utilizing the components described for starting an internal combustion engine is also described.

Starter device for an internal combustion engine as well as a method for starting an internal combustion engine

A control apparatus for protected switching of a load encompasses at least two switch units in series with a load, to permit delivery of energy to a load when each switch unit is switched on and to block it when at least one of the switch units is shut off; an electronic control system for triggering each switch unit via a first switching path and second switching paths, and for monitoring its state; a delay element on the first switching path, such that each switch unit can be shut off both by way of a shutoff signal conveyed via the first switching path and by way of a shutoff signal conveyed via the second switching path; and in a state in which one of the switch units is shut off and the other is switched on, the electronic control system ascertains a malfunction of the first switching path if, after output of a shutoff signal on the first switching path, the other switch unit does not shut off within a predefined time window.

Protected control apparatus

An internal combustion engine controller includes a main processor for monitoring operating parameters of an internal combustion engine and a triggering device, working together with the main processor, for an electric fuel pump of the internal combustion engine. The triggering device works together with an electric activation device and operates so that the fuel pump is triggered essentially without time delay after actuation of the activation device. The internal combustion engine controller has an electronic switching device which operates so that, during an initialization process of the main processor, it triggers the electric fuel pump independently of the main processor.

Internal combustion engine controller and method for the operation of an internal combustion engine controller

During a start, particularly during a cold start, of an internal combustion engine without additional auxiliary drive, a precisely metered fuel mass is introduced into a combustion chamber. In the case of an internal combustion engine having direct fuel injection, a rail pressure prevailing in a high-pressure accumulator is frequently only insufficiently built up during a start, which has an unfavorable effect on the mixture formation. To improve the start performance of the internal combustion engine, the injection pressure available in the high-pressure accumulator is monitored during the start, and fuel from the high-pressure accumulator is first injected into the at least one combustion chamber when the injection pressure has reached or exceeded a specifiable threshold value. This ensures that the rail pressure is high enough, in order to inject a sufficient quantity of fuel into the combustion chamber so that an ignitable air/fuel mixture is formed.

A method and an arrangement for monitoring a pressure sensor are suggested which determines a value representing the ambient pressure of an internal combustion engine. Furthermore, an index for the extent of the correction of the mixture composition via the mixture control system is determined and the supplied air mass is detected from the throttle flap angle and the intake manifold pressure. A fault in the determination of the ambient pressure is detected when the measured air mass deviates from the computed air mass and the correction of the mixture control system is less than a predetermined limit value and when, for an open throttle flap, intake manifold pressure and ambient pressure deviate impermissibly from each other.

The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling the drive unit of a motor vehicle. At least two mutually redundant measurement quantities are detected which are compared to threshold values. A function of the control of the drive unit is activated or deactivated in dependence upon the ratio of at least one of the measurement quantities to at least one of the threshold values. Each measurement quantity is compared to at least one threshold value; signals, which characterize exceeding or dropping below the threshold value, are generated; and the function is activated or deactivated when a pregiven combination of these signals is present.

An electronic arrangement for controlling gas exchange valves of an internal combustion engine with variable valve control is presented. The valve control makes possible to completely hold closed at least the inlet valves and the electronic arrangement is equipped with means for detecting the air quantity, which is inducted by the engine, and with means for detecting the valve stroke. The electronic control arrangement changes the opening function in overrun operation starting from the fully closed inlet valves so that an opening of the inlet valves takes place and the arrangement detects the index of the valve opening at which a reaction of the air quantity detection takes place and uses this index as a reference point for determining the actual opening cross section.
