A laminated polypropylene-based film suitable for retort packaging having an exterior film, a barrier layer, and a sealing layer. The retort packaging film has a total composition including high levels of polyolefin-based polymers and polypropylene-based polymers such that the material can be processed efficiently in a polypropylene recycling process. Advantageously, the film retains the properties required to suitably withstand the retort process and produce a high-quality shelf-stable packaged product.

Heat resistant recycle-ready retort packaging

The present invention relates to a method for the production of a self-venting packaging for use in heating a food item in a microwave oven, said packaging comprising a rupturable valve seal (), said rupturable valve seal comprising an inside-inside seal, creating a weak point on said packaging, suitable to break in case of overpressure inside the packaging, said method comprising the following subsequent steps: providing an open plastic packaging; filling said packaging with a food item; &#x2014;sealing the plastic packaging to obtain a closed pack via a closing seal with the food item therein ready to be sterilised; heat treating said food item; providing a rupturable valve seal () on the pack by ultrasound seal technology.

Method for the production of self-venting packaging

The present invention discloses a self-venting package () for packing a food preparation and warming it up comprising at least one flexible film forming a first wall comprising a sealant layer () and a support layer (), said flexible film being sealed by a peripheral seal () onto a second wall or on itself, thereby forming a main enclosure confining the food preparation; a rupturable seal () isolating a venting hole () from said main enclosure, said rupturable seal being arranged for opening, in use, a path to the venting hole upon internal pressure increase in said main enclosure, characterized in that a specific region () of the rupturable seal is weakened by means of a welded area with a reduced sealant layer thickness, said welded area guiding, in use, the rupture of said rupturable seal to the venting hole.

Self-venting package

The invention concerns composites with excellent barrier properties to gases and water vapor. Such composites can be used, e.g., in foodstuff packaging or as technical membranes. The outstanding barrier effect is achieved by arranging on a substrate material, which, for example, may consist of biodegradable polymers, at least two films. At least one of these films consists of an organic-inorganic hybrid polymer (ORMOCER), at least one further film of a further barrier material or of a substrate material.
