A multilayer color and/or effect coating on a substrate, wherein the coating includes a clearcoat layer having a dry film thickness of 10 μm to 50 μm, and the coating includes a basecoat layer having a dry film thickness of 6 μm to 35 μm, incorporating color and/or effect pigments whose orientation within the basecoat layer influences the optical properties of the coating, and the basecoat layer includes control particles that control the orientation of the color and/or effect pigments, wherein the control particles are characterized by a d10 of at least 50% of the dry film thickness of the basecoat layer and by a d50 of 80% to 120% of the dry film thickness of the basecoat layer, and by a d100 of not more than 200% of the dry film thickness of the basecoat layer.

A method of producing vehicles includes coating a vehicle body with paint, drying the paint, mounting attachment parts on load-bearing components of the vehicle body that has been coated with the paint that has been dried, and applying an adhesive film including an adhesive layer to a surface of the vehicle body that has been coated with the paint that has been dried or at least one attachment part mounted thereon, wherein, to apply the adhesive film, the adhesive film is positioned between the surface and an elastic membrane with an automated system, and the elastic membrane is transformed in selected regions into a curved state with a convex and a concave side and is brought into contact with the surface with the convex side in front such that the adhesive layer of the adhesive film is pressed onto the surface by the membrane over the entire surface area.

A method of applying an adhesive film to a component includes applying an adhesive film to a surface of a component, wherein the adhesive film is positioned between the surface and an elastic membrane, the elastic membrane is transferred into a curved state with a convex and a concave side and contacted with the surface with the convex side first such that an adhesive layer of the adhesive film is pressed onto the surface in a full-area by the elastic membrane, the adhesive layer is pressed onto the surface in a full-area by a negative pressure being applied to that side of the elastic membrane facing towards the adhesive film, and to stabilize the component against deformation brought about by this negative pressure, the elastic membrane along with the adhesive film is pushed against the surface of the component with a plunger means.

A method of applying a surface-coating material to a substrate includes providing a flexible laminate with a carrier and at least one layer of surface-coating material applied to the carrier and comprising a surface-coating material containing a double-bond-containing, OH-functional component A, a double-bond-containing, NCO-functional component B, and, optionally, a double-bond-containing component C which is different from A and B; applying a layer of adhesive to the substrate, contacting the carrier side of the laminate with a surface of the substrate such that the layer of surface-coating material is at least partially cured before or when it contacts the surface of the substrate, and removing the carrier from the layer of surface-coating material.

Methods of applying surface-coating material to a substrate

A surface-coating material includes a double-bond-containing, OH-functional component A and a double-bond-containing, NCO-functional component B, having the following properties: Component A: solids fraction between 30% and 100% by weight, double-bond density between 2 eq/kg and 5 eq/kg (at a solids fraction of 100%), and OH content between 4% and 7% by weight, and Component B: solids fraction between 30% and 100% by weight, double-bond density between 1 eq/kg and 4 eq/kg (at a solids fraction of 100%), and NCO content of between 4% and 7% by weight.
