To produce manganese containing ferroalloy for steel production, an agglomeration mixture is produced which comprises chromite ore concentrate and manganese ore fines with a grain size smaller than 6-9 mm. The mixture is agglomerated to produce green agglomeration products, such as pellets or other types of agglomerates. The green agglomeration products are sintered in a steel belt sintering furnace to produce either sinter or sintered pellets. The sinter or sintered pellets are smelted in a submerged arc furnace to produce manganese and chromium containing ferroalloy. The ferroalloy produced by the method comprises 6.0-35 w-% manganese and 31-54 w-% chromium.

Method for producing manganese containing ferroalloy

The invention relates to a method for producing a ferroalloy containing nickel. From a fine-grained raw material containing iron and chromium and a fine-grained raw material containing nickel, a mixture is formed with binding agent, the mixture is agglomerated so that first formed objects of desired size are obtained. The objects formed are heat treated in order to strengthen the objects so that the heat treated objects withstand conveyance and loading into a smelter furnace. Further, the objects are smelted under reducing circumstances in order to achieve ferrochromenickel, a ferroalloy of a desired composition containing at least iron, chromium and nickel.

Method for producing ferroalloy containing nickel

The invention relates to a pelletizing feed containing chromite ore, at least one nickel salt, and silicon carbide as the only carbonaceous material and the only reducing agent. The invention also relates to process for manufacturing the pelletizing feed comprising the steps providing chromite, at least one nickel salt and silicon carbide, and mixing chromite, at least one nickel salt and silicon carbide. The invention also relates to use of the pelletizing feed as a starting material for the manufacture of sintering feed. Metallurgical composition for the manufacture of ferrochrome

The invention relates to a method for sintering ferroalloy materials in a continuously operated band sintering process, in which method the pellets to be sintered are arranged on the sintering underlay as an essentially even pellet bed, which pellet bed is conveyed on the sintering underlay through the various steps of the sintering process, and in connection with the sintering process, gas is conducted through the pellet bed. According to the invention, at least the major part of the carbon-bearing material needed for heating the pellet bed up to the sintering temperature is fed onto the surface of ready-made pellets prior to bringing the pellets to the sintering step.

Method for sintering ferroalloy materials

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for sintering finely divided material, containing manganese compounds with a particle size less than 6 mm and a high degree of oxidation, by means of some carbon-bearing material in a conveyor-type sintering apparatus (9) in an essentially continuous operation. According to the invention, through the material (8) to be sintered in the sintering apparatus (9), there is conducted hot gas (15, 18), which causes combustion reactions between the manganese compounds contained in the material and having a high degree of oxidation and the carbon contained in the burning material. Thus the sintering (18) is carried out essentially by means of the combustion heat released from the material (8). Moreover, the sintered material (8) is subjected to cooling (17) prior to removing the material from the sintering apparatus (9).

Method for sintering finely divided material

The invention relates to a smelting furnace, particularly a D.C. arc furnace, suited for the treatment of finely-divided material, which comprises at least three electrodes suspended through the roof in order to create the electric arc. The process material is fed in through at least one feed gate (30) arranged inside the circle orbit formed by the electrodes (4, 16, 26) suspended through the furnace roof, which feed gate (30) is provided with auxiliary members in order to create an even supply of the material into the furnace. In order to discharge the gases created in the process, there is provided at least one outlet (20) outside the circle orbit formed by the electrodes (4, 16, 26). The invention also relates to a method for feeding finely divided material into the smelting furnace. According to this method, the material is fed through the feed gate (30) in suspension, either vertically or tangentially.

A device for blowing gas and a finely-divided solid into a metallurgical melt is disclosed, the device having a blast pipe which has at one end an inlet connected to a gas source and at the opposite end an outlet immersed below the melt surface in order to blow the gas into the melt. A cooling device surrounds the blast pipe, the cooling device having, at that end which is near the blast-pipe inlet, inlets and outlets for the cooling medium, and a mantle of ceramic material which surrounds at least the lower part of the cooling device. In the outlet of the blast pipe there is a Laval nozzle which is at an angle to the blast pipe and extends through the thermally insulating mantle. The cooling device further consists of smaller-diameter cooling pipes parallel to the blast pipe, the inlets of the cooling pipes being intended to be connected to a source of a gas-liquid mixture which vaporizes rapidly in the cooling device, and the mantle is surrounded by a graphite or silicon carbide sleeve, which is at least so thick that it protects the ceramic material when the device is lowered into the melt, so that the ceramic material reaches the temperature of the melt more slowly than the sleeve does and sinters before the sleeve wears out.
