Protection of cavities opening onto a face of a microstructured element

The invention concerns a method for growing oriented carbon nanotubes on a sample using a target of carbon or a variety of carbon in a deposition chamber where a plasma predominates. The sample () is arranged in contact with the target (), in such a way that the target has a free surface and that the sample offers a free surface, the plasma causing the growth of carbon nanotubes on the free surface of the sample.

Low temperature growth of oriented carbon nanotubes

The data recording device comprises a network of carbon nanotubes formed on a flat substrate and constituting microtips operating in conjunction with a substantially flat storage medium. The carbon nanotubes are initially inclined by a predetermined angle comprised between 5&#xb0; and 40&#xb0; with respect to the plane of the substrate. The nanotubes flex when they come into contact with the storage medium, parallel to the substrate. The substrate preferably comprises a raised structure designed to act as support for the free ends of the nanotubes to bear on.
