Disclosed are electrostatically-sprayable topical compositions, more particularly topical emulsion compositions, and methods of treating the skin by electrostatic application of such compositions. In one aspect the composition comprises an insulating external phase comprising one or more insulating materials and a conductive internal phase comprising one or more conductive materials. The compositions preferably also contain one or more particulate materials to be deposited on the skin, e.g., pigments, inert absorbents and the like.

The present invention relates to substantially uniform, discontinuous films of a skin care product having a defined average particle size, particle spacing and coverage value. The films provide improved skin appearance, e.g., good apparent coverage and a natural look. The films can be formed by any method which provides the defined particle size, particle spacing and coverage value, including silk screening and the like and electrostatic spray techniques. The films are preferably formed by electrostatically spraying the composition onto the skin.

The films are wear or transfer resistant and provide good skin coverage, while simultaneously providing improved skin appearance, e.g., good apparent coverage and a natural look.
