In an apparatus for process analysis, a test substance is removed from the process stream by a probe and fed to an analysis instrument with a measured value display. Upstream of the analysis instrument, the test gas is conveyed through condensers. A monitoring unit is coupled to the analysis instruments and the processing chain without influencing the flow of data from the analysis instrument to the measured value display. The monitoring unit receives information about the entire apparatus via status sensors which are incorporated into the processing chain and into the analysis instrument. Depending on this information, the monitoring unit can intervene via solenoid valves, switches and motor potentiometers into the apparatus and alter its operation. The condition of the apparatus can also be displayed.

Apparatus for process analysis

A crack indicator based on a piping system consisting of cold-embrittling plastics pipes imbedded in a gas container insulation. A warning gas is subjected to an excess pressure in the piping system. In the event of a crack or other damage to the insulating material, a leak is produced in the piping system at this point so that warning gas flows out into the tank interior. In this case, an indicator responding to the issuing warning gas produces an alarm signal. The alarm emitter can consist, for example, of an analysis instrument for the specific gas. However, an indicator based on a pressure measuring system which is connected upstream of the piping system and produces an alarm signal when a predetermined pressure difference is exceeded is simpler.

By means of a suction pump located at the outlet of the analyzer device and a combination of choke members connected in parallel in a row and respective low pressure controllers at the outlet of the gas analyzer and at the connection point of the series connection and parallel connection of the choke members, a constant sample flow through the analyzer is produced. Thus, even where there is a fluctuating measuring gas pressure and a variable flow resistance in the inlet part of the gas analyzer, the proportionality of the measuring signal to the concentration of the measuring component is ensured.

The industrial photometer consists in principle of an optical single-beam measuring arrangement with the gas (or liquid) to be investigated flowing through the measuring cell. The detector behind the measuring cell consists of a photoelectric receiver which is connected to a working resistor with a remote-controlled voltage tap. A highly constant counter voltage is connected in series with the photovoltage. The measuring cell is filled at preselected time intervals with an absorption-free zero substance (standard substance), and the difference between the photovoltage and the constant voltage is automatically equalised to zero. After equalisation, the zero substance is again replaced by the measuring gas or liquid. The voltage difference then measured is a measure of the concentration to be determined.
