An epoxy resin composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a polyepoxide and a curing amount of a bis(hydrogen maleate) derivative of a polyoxypropylenediamine. This composition when cured produces unexpectedly superior encapsulations which are more flexible and less brittle than those of the prior art.

Epoxy resin curatives

A self curing aqueous solution/dispersion comprising about 50-70 wt. % water, about 25-35 wt. % of a novel N-polymethylene substituted polyoxypropylene polyamine and about 3-9 wt. % of a curable polymer-forming component such as an epoxy-resin is described. The solution is useful for injection into permeable earth formations such as unconsolidated sands to reduce their permeability and consolidate the formation. Novel N-substituted polyamines of the formula [NaO.sub.3 S--R.sub.1 ].sub.m A wherein R.sub.1 is a C.sub.2 to C.sub.6 polymethylene group and A is a polyoxyalkylene polyamine are employed in the solution to render the epoxy-resin component adequately soluble or dispersible in the aqueous solution and to act as the curing agent for the resin.

Hydrophilic high polymers prepared from aqueous solutions or dispersions

Compounds typified by N,N'-polyoxyalkylene bis (pyrrolidinone-3-carboxylic acid) are useful as epoxy curing accelerators. Salts thereof, including alkali metal salts, are curing agents for isocyanurate foams.

Compounds typified by N,N'-polyoxyalkylene bis(pyrrolidinone-3-carboxylic acid) are useful as epoxy curing accelerators. Salts thereof, including alkali metal salts, are curing agents for isocyanurate foams.

Process of making an isocyanurate foam

Novel compounds are produced from aminated alkoxylated aliphatic alcohols and alkyl phenols are described. The compound is formed by reacting the nitrogen atom with certain compounds to form hydroxyl, carboxyl or sulfonate terminated compounds susceptible to salt formation with Group 1a and 2a metals, particularly sodium and potassium, to increase the water solubility of the compound. These compounds, particularly the salts of these compounds, are useful surface active agents and are soluble in polar and non-polar solvents. They are useful as oil and fuel additives, anticorrosive agents, detergents, froth flotation and oil recovery chemicals, and certain metal salts of the compound are useful as isocyanurate catalysts.

Compounds from aminated alkoxylated aliphatic alcohol

A solvent resistant epoxy resin composition comprises a vicinal polyepoxide, an aromatic polyamine and a condensation product of a polyoxyalkylenediamine of about 400 molecular weight or below with at least two moles of maleic anhydride.

Solvent resistant epoxy coatings

Novel compounds which are produced from aminated alkoxylated aliphatic alcohols and alkyl phenols are described. Aminated alkoxylated aliphatic alcohol salts as polyisocyanurate

An epoxy resin having superior resistance to thermal shock comprises a vicinal polyepoxide, a curing amount of a certain bicyclic anhydride and an effective amount of a certain bicyclic anhydride and an additive comprising a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine-maleic anhydride condensation product having (thio)carbamoyl, carbamoyl or thioformyl or formyl end groups.

Polyether diureide epoxy additives

An improved curable epoxy resin composition of a vicinalpolyepoxide and an effective amount of a novel polyether urea curing agent is disclosed. The improved curable epoxy resins which are useful as coatings, castings, sealants, and adhesives show improved tensile shear strength, flexural strength, and ultimate elongation. The novel polyether urea curing agents of the instant invention are characterized by terminal primary amino groups and are formed by reaction of polyoxyalkylenepolyamines with urea, urea forming compounds, or bifunctional isocyanates. A preferred curing agent includes a mixture of a novel polyether urea formed by reaction of a polyoxypropylenepolyamine having a molecular weight of from about 200-2000 and an effective amount of urea; and another known epoxy resin curing agent such as polyoxyalkylenepolyamine in ratios of from about 5:1 to 1:5 by weight.

Polyether urea epoxy curing agent

A process for treating methylene-bridged polyphenylpolyamine mixtures prepared by the silica-alumina catalyzed condensation reaction of aniline and formaldehyde to obtain substantially pure low functionality Diaminodiphenylmethanes having increased 4,4'-positional isomer content and a higher functionality methylene-bridge polyphenylpolyamine mixture having a narrow molecular weight range is disclosed. A methylene-bridge polyphenylpolyamine mixture, prepared by the condensation reaction of aniline and formaldehyde carried out in the presence of a silica-alumina cracking catalyst, containing at least about 75 weight percent diaminodiphenylmethanes based upon the weight of the mixture and having a 4,4'-positional isomer content in the diamine portion of above about 65%, based upon the weight of the diamine portion, is admixed at a temperature of from about room temperature to about 150.degree. C. with a material capable of forming a solution with the mixture at the temperature employed. A portion of the admixture-solution is then allowed to crystallize and is separated therefrom, which comprises substantially pure diaminodiphenylmethane having a 4,4'-positional isomer content of above about 85 weight percent. The remainder of the admixture contains a methylene-bridged polyphenylpolyamine mixture of reduced diaminodiphenylmethane content and a narrow molecular weight distribution. Both portions can be employed as precursors in conventional phosgenation techniques to provide corresponding organic isocyanates which are highly useful in the preparation of certain coatings, elastomers, flexible and rigid forms and the like.

Treatment of methylene-bridged polyphenylpolyamime mixtures

Resistance to thermal shock of certain anhydride cured epoxy resins is unexpectedly enhanced by addition of a diamide of a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine-urea condensate. This superior resistance does not appreciably compromise heat deflection properties. The resins comprise a vicinal polyepoxide, a curing amount of a certain bicyclic anhydride and an effective amount of a diamide of a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine-urea condensate having a molecular weight of from about 4000 to 4500.

Novel polyether polyureides useful in the manufacture of plastics, sealants, molds, foams and coatings. The novel composition comprises a ureido-terminated polyoxyalkylene prepared by reacting a primary amine-terminated polyoxyalkylene with urea at temperatures in the range from about 120.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C. in a molar ratio of about one mole of urea for each terminal primary amino group.

Polyether polyureides and resinous compositions therefrom

An adhesively superior epoxy resin composition comprises a vicinal polyepoxide, a curing amount of an amine curing agent, and an effective amount of an additive comprising a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine-maleic anhydride condensation product having thioureide, ureide or thioformamide or formamide end groups.
