A weld joint between two structural elements out of different metallic carrier materials is described, in which at least approximately unmixed weld-joint-interface between the two elements made in such a manner, that on the one side of the interface only metal out of the one carrier material and on the other side only metal of the other carrier material is present. For example, the weld-joint-interface is made by an electron-beam welding. The surface of the weld joint can be enamelled and the welding of the two elements can be performed by a normal melt-welding method, in which welding material out of the metal of the respective carrier materials is laid on.

A medical securement element with a self-tapping screw thread is provided with biocompatible abrasive grains at the surface of the thread. The grains are preferably embedded in a layer of porcelain enamel on a metal substrate.

An enameled steel cone is the support for a heat sensitive resistor element. The resistive element is arranged upon the enameled base of the cone and with a layer of enamel. A hollow shaft extends from the apex of the cone. Wires connected to the resistive element are fed through the body of the cone and through the hollow shaft. The assembly may be enameled in place or otherwise secured to a prepared structure such as a enameled steel vessel or member.

A surgical implant is produced by coating a metallic substrate with enamel. The metallic substrate provides structural strength and the enamel provides chemical stability, resistance to wear, tissue compatibility, progressive ingrowth and electrical insulating properties. The implant may be produced by coating a portion of the metallic substrate with a partially crystallized enamel, and then positioning the implant on a firing support with the partially crystallized enamel in contact with the support and coating the remaining non-enamelled surface.
