Method of centering windshield glazings

An automobile glazing pane, ready for installation, is pre-equipped with a mounting frame of an elastomer. The mounting frame is disposed only on the side of the glass pane facing towards the fixing flange of the window frame, without engaging around the edge of the glass pane and is bonded to the glass pane. It possesses a mounting groove for the clamped fixing of the pre-equipped glass pane to the fixing flange of the window pane.

An automobile glass pane prepared for adhesive bonding to the fastening flange of a window frame comprises a profiled spacer having a web aligned approximately perpendicular to the glass pane. Adjacent the web is a bead of a plastic adhesive having a high adhesion with respect to the spacer and with respect to the fastening flange. The bead of plastic adhesive, moreover, is of relatively high shear strength and is arranged on the side directed towards the border of the pane. Arranged on the other side of the web is a bead of a reaction adhesive composition. This web has a height corresponding to the minimum distance of the glass pane from the fastening flange. The bead of plastic adhesive serves to fix the glass pane in its installed position during the hardening phase of the reaction adhesive composition.

A thermoplastic elastomer is supplied via an extruder and a heated pressure hose to a heated extrusion nozzle. The nozzle is guided by a robot, and the elastomer is extruded and laid by means of the extrusion nozzle onto the surface. The gasket is applied, for example, to an automobile glazing as a profiled frame along its border.

The invention relates to an apparatus for extruding a polymer profile directly onto the surface of a glass plate and particularly along a peripheral edge thereof. The extruded polymer profile is provided with a sealing and centering lip located on and projecting over the circumferential peripheral surface of the glass plate. The extrusion die has at least one supply channel for the polymer to be extruded. One supply channel or portion thereof leads the polymer material substantially to the portion of the die orifice directed toward the center of the plate. The other supply channel essentially supplies the portion of the orifice directed toward the outside. The supply channel may be provided with a shutoff device which regulates the volume flow. The regulation of the shutoff device takes place as a function of the radius of curvature (R) of the path covered by the extrusion die.

A motor vehicle glazing prepared for installation is provided with one or more profiled spacers produced by extrusion of an extrudable polymer directly onto the glazing. A first spacer is provided along its outer periphery with an lip portion projecting beyond the peripheral area of the glazing. In the installed position of the glazing the lip portion rests against the window frame flange running parallel to the peripheral area of the glazing and acts, upon insertion of the glazing and during the setting process of the assembly adhesive, as a support and centering element for the glazing. Adjacent the first profiled spacer, and attached to the glazing is the assembly adhesive bead. Optionally, a second spacer is provided also adjacent the adhesive bead for retaining the adhesive bead between the first and second spacers and for adding support.

A glass pane is equipped with an elastically resilient sealing profile. For fixing the sealing profile on the glass pane, a profile strand is glued to the glass pane and a sealing profile is secured to this strand. The profile strand consists of a hardened adhesive compound extruded directly onto the glass pane or onto a frame-like coating disposed on the glass pane. The profile strand has a channel-shaped cross-section and possesses lateral flanges which are equipped with inwardly oriented projections and thus form an insertion groove with back-cut zones for securing a push-in portion connected with the sealing portion of the sealing profile.

An automobile glass pane, intended for glueing to the fixing web of the window frame of an automobile body, is furnished along its edge with a profile strand of a hardened adhesive compound. This profile strand forms a no longer plastically deformable intermediate body between the glass pane and the adhesive strand. The profile strand is substantially of U-section and possesses anchorage projections. These anchorage projections produce a form-fitting and force-transmitting connection between the adhesive strand and the profile strand. They can additionally serve for the clamping fixing of different lugs, clips or profile strips.

A method for producing a spacer for a windshield bracket including laying a window glazing (1) on a support frame (15), and guiding an extrusion head along the glazing edge. The extrusion head has an extrusion die (16) with a calibrated opening (18) corresponding to the desired cross-section of the spacer. The extrudable polymer compound for the spacer is fed to the extrusion die (16) by a pipe (19) connected to a feeding and pumping mechanism. The extrusion die (16) is then removed from the glazing (1). The transition zone of the profiled spacer 8 is then subjected to additional compression by operation of upper and lower rams (23, 25), the rams exhibiting forming areas corresponding to the lower and upper forms of the spacer, respectively. Release films 33 and 34 are laid on forming areas of the lower ram (23) and the upper ram (25) prior to the compression molding process. After the compression molding, film pieces 33 and 34 adhere to the polymer material, but do not bond thereto. Any additional flash or tab (41) is cut off along the edge (40) of the lip portion (10) of the spacer.

Method of making a spacer for a windshield bracket

A motor vehicle glazing prepared for bonding with the window frame of a motor vehicle body is provided with a profile bead and a single tear-away cord. The profile bead serves as an intermediate body between the glazing surface and an assembly adhesive. In the area coming in contact with the assembly adhesive the width of the profile bead is selected to inhibit the lateral overflow of the assembly adhesive over the profile bead during installation. A tear-away cord is placed inside the profile bead or in its immediate vicinity to shear through the profile bead when removing glazing. The profile bead itself or the adhesive bonding of the profile bead to the glazing surface is shaped so that the width of the section of profile bead to be sheared through by the tear-away cord is substantially smaller than the width of the area coming in contact with the assembly adhesive.

A window glass having shaped metallic brackets with a U-shaped cross section which are force-fittingly connected by clamping to the edge areas of the glass, wherein the window glass is provide on at least one surface on the edge area overlapped by the shaped metallic bracket with a raised layer which securely adheres to the glass surface and which is made of a highly elastic polymer which produces a large-surface force connection to the abutting shaped shank with partial elastic deformation. The window glass avoids the use of adhesives between the shaped brackets and glass surface and is suitable for industrial production.

Window glass for motor vehicles and a method for the manufacture thereof

A spacer for installation along the upper or lower horizontal edge of a vehicle windshield. The spacer is used to maintain the support bracket at a predetermined distance and perpendicular to the surface of the windshield. The spacer includes a first surface for contact with the windshield edge, a second surface for contact with the bracket, and a support surface which works a support element fastened to the bracket for maintaining the bracket substantially perpendicular to the edge of the windshield. The windshield, equipped with the spacer, can thus be positioned by itself by simple alignment of the spacer on the bracket support element while an adhesive is applied between the windshield and bracket and cures without further support.
