In a bank note processing machine, a method of adjusting the threshold values associated with whether a particular note is fit or unfit for circulation is provided. The starting point is that at least one bank note fit for circulation is selected, at least one bank note unfit for circulation is selected, and the selected bank notes are processed by the bank note processing machine. The data of at least one sensor are stored, and at least one threshold value for the at least one sensor is defined by evaluating the stored data of the at least one sensor.

Method for adjusting a bank note processing machine

An apparatus for determining the fitness of a bank note by sensing the bank note transported along a transport path by a transport device. The apparatus includes a plurality of identical sensor and illumination units positioned along each side of the transport path whereby the sensor and illumination units are focused at a single predetermined section of the transport path.

Apparatus and method for determining bank note fitness

A method and apparatus for testing a paper of value, in particular for condition testing of a bank note, are proposed wherein the bank note is subjected both to dark-field measurement and to bright-field measurement. From comparison of the measuring results of dark-field measurement and bright-field measurement one can make a clear statement about whether a flaw, for example a hole, tear, etc., is present in the bank note in the tested area. The bright-field and dark-field measuring devices can be formed separately with one LED array and detector array in each case. However, preferred embodiments provide for either a common LED array with two detectors or two LED arrays with a common detector. If two LED arrays are used, the dark-field radiation source is preferably formed as an IR light source and the bright-field radiation source as a red-light radiation source in order to permit authenticity testing of the paper of value to be performed as well as condition testing thereof. Method and device for controlling paper documents of value

The invention relates to a method for checking the state of an apparatus for testing sheet material having at least one illumination device, transparent measuring window and detector. For ascertaining the soiling of a measuring window according to the invention the latter is irradiated with UV light by an illumination device, the UV light transmitted through the measuring window being filtered by a UV filter such that only a small fraction passes the filter and reaches a detector. Said fraction of UV light transmitted through the filter is detected and evaluated for determining the degree of soiling of the measuring window.
