An additive mixture containing (A) at least one compound of the formula (I) wherein Rand Rindependently of one another are hydrogen, C-Calkyl, &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;CH2CN, C-Calkoxy, C-Calkoxy substituted by &#x2014;OH; C-Ccycloalkoxy, C-Calkenyl, C-Calkenyloxy, C-Cphenylalkyl unsubstituted or substituted on the phenyl by 1, 2 or 3 C-Calkyl; or C-Cacyl; and Rand Rindependently of one another are C-Calkyl or a group of the formula (Ia) wherein Rhas one of the meanings of Rand R, and (B) at least one anti-scratch additive.

The instant invention pertains to the use of an antistatic composition comprising a polar thermoplastic polymer and an ionic liquid as antistatic additive for non-polar thermo-plastic or elastomeric polymers. Further aspects of the invention are a process for the preparation of an antistatic non-polar thermoplastic or elastomeric polymer which process comprises incorporating therein a mixture of a polar thermoplastic polymer and an ionic liquid and the composition of a polar thermoplastic polymer, an ionic liquid and a non-polar thermoplastic or elastomeric polymer.

The invention describes a composition comprising a) a polyethylene, b) a sulfur-containing phenolic antioxidant, c) a migrating antistatic agent, and d) an organic peroxide. The present invention discloses a process for the preparation of a stabilized polyester that is low in the generation of aldehydes which comprises reacting one or more diacids with one or more diols in an esterification process, and/or one or more diesters with one or more diols in a transesterification process in the presence of an effective amount of a stabilizer selected from the group consisting of (a) a polyhydric alcohol which is for example poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol), poly(styrene-co-allyl alcohol), maltitol, isomalt, sorbitol, xylitol, sucrose, mucic acid dibutylester, mucic acid di(phenyl-1-ethyl)ester, pentaerythritol or dipentaerythritol; (b) a compound of the formula II which is for example di-iso-octyl-phosphinic acid; (c) a sterically hindered amine which is for example Tinuvin 123 or Tinuvin 622; (d) a polyacrylamide, an anionic acrylic polymer or a cationic acrylamide copolymer; or (e) a hydroxylamine and/or a nitrone. Such polyesters, for example PET, when extrusion compounded exhibit a lower residual acetaldehyde content than does PET alone when similarly treated. The invention pertains to any polyester used in the manufacture of bottles or containers which in turn are used to store consumer materials, especially food, pharmaceuticals, beverages and most especially water.

Process for preparing a stabilized polyester

Disclosed are natural products composites protected against the deleterious effects of microorganisms comprising at least one natural product, at least one thermoplastic resin, and an effective amount of an antifungal agent. The composites are further advantageously protected against weathering and color formation by the incorporation therein of at least one light stabilizer and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the oxides, hydroxides or silicates of Ca, Mg, Al and Zn. The light stabilizers are selected from the group consisting of the ultraviolet light absorbers and the sterically hindered amines. The metal oxide is for example CaO. The natural products are for example wood flour, flax, hemp, jute, kenaf, or rice husk. The thermoplastic resin is for example polyethylene or polypropylene. The antifungal agent and potential coadditives are incorporated via melt processing such as extrusion, co-kneading, pultrusion and injection molding. The antifungal agent is for example thiabendazole.

By heating at above the melting point and/or glass transition point of the polycondensate and adding an aromatic dicyanate; or adding a mixture comprising an aromatic dicyanate and a polyfunctional compound selected from the class of sterically hindered hydroxyphenyl-alkyl-phosphonic esters and monoesters, diphosphonites and secondary aromatic amines; or adding a mixture comprising (i) an aromatic dicyanate, (ii) at least one polyfunctional compound selected from the class of sterically hindered hydroxyphenyl-alkyl-phosphonic esters and monoesters, diphosphonites and secondary amines, and (iii) a difunctional epoxide, it is possible to bring about an increase in the molecular weight and/or viscosity of virgin polycondensate and polycondensate recyclates.
