An electronic switch for projectiles includes a circuit with a source of electric energy which is switched in when the projectile is discharged. The circuit includes an adjustable time-delay device for the explosion of the projectile, a device for preventing muzzle burst, and a self-destruct arrangement. The exploding fuse is connected to the source of energy by an impact or a proximity switch. The self-destruct arrangement is settable by cooperating cells carried by the projectile and by the barrel of the gun.

Electronic projectile fuse

A projectile, especially for hand firearms and automatic pistols, including a core member formed of a first material and provided with a blind bore extending in the forward direction into an outwardly inclined truncated cone surface indentation in the core member. A projectile insert member formed of a second material which is more difficult to deform than the first material, contacts the core member along the outwardly inclined truncated cone surface thereof and is provided with a lug portion extending into said blind bore of the core member for detachably joining said insert member and said core member. A jacket member encompasses the rear portion of said core member and extends forwardly at least up to a zone of the core member surrounding said blind bore. The jacket member has a front edge portion which terminates at a spacing from the forward edge portion of the core member so as to provide an unjacketed strip portion of the core member thereat.

A pyrotechnical sealing material comprises a heat-foamable synthetic resin capable of being foamed with the aid of a burnable pyrotechnical composition. The sealing material is in the form of a cord having a core made of the pyrotechnical composition and a casing separated from the core by a flexible sheath. The casing is formed from the heat-foamable synthetic resin.

A short-range projectile for practice ammunition having an axial air inlet duct emanating from the front end of the projectile and at least one outlet duct connecting the inlet duct with the jacket of the projectile. At least one of the inlet and outlet ducts are blocked during the initial flight path of the projectile by a blocking member displaceable in a chronologically controlled manner. The blocking member is displaceable in response to an air pressure head occurring during flight of the projectile from a starting position for preventing the influx of air from the inlet duct to the outlet duct to a final position wherein communication and influx of air from the inlet duct to the outlet duct is completely enabled.

Short-range projectile for practice ammunition

Ammunition belt apparatus for accommodating propellant cartridges including a flexible, coilable belt strip, a plurality of holes extending transversely through the strip and spaced from one another in the longitudinal direction of the strip, and clamping means associated with each of the holes for clamping a cartridge to the strip with portions of the cartridge extending through one of the holes, and with parts of said clamping means being formed separately from the strip and the cartridge. In preferred embodiments, the clamping means includes a tubular casing formed separately from the strip for each of the holes, which tubular casing press-fittingly engages a respective cartridge for holding the cartridge in position on the strip with the casing and a cartridge rim clamping the strip therebetween. Various preferred embodiments include various types of connections for the casings at the strip as well as various materials for the construction of the strip and the casings.

Ammunition belt apparatus and method of making same

Training ammunition for mortars having a projectile disposed in a cartridge case and provided with a propellant charge for being fired from a barrel insert of a dummy shell. An ejector charge is associated with the cartridge case and is provided with an ignition device and is arranged for ejecting the dummy shell together with the cartridge case from the mortar barrel. A flash hole is arranged between the propellant charge and the ejector charge, and an ignition jet conducting tube is disposed coaxially within the ejector charge and extends from the ignition device to the end of the ejector charge facing the flash hole. The ignition jet conducting tube is provided with at least one radial ignition aperture therethrough.

The present invention relates to a propellant charge igniter having a striker element with a rearward cylindrical shank portion extending through the bottom piece of the propellant charge igniter, a forward headpiece following the shank portion and having an enlarged outer diameter with respect to the shank portion, the striker element resting on an annular shoulder formed in the bottom piece and being provided with an annular, separable collar held by means of a counter member extending over the headpiece.

A combined igniter cap for electrical and nonelectrical ignition having an electrically conductive housing with a pole piece arranged therein. A first primer charge is arranged on a first side of the pole piece, and the pole piece being provided with a recess and a first communicating path through the pole piece between the recess and the first primer charge. A second ignition system is arranged in the recess and is ignitable from a second side of said pole piece which is disposed oppositely to the first side. An insulating element is disposed between the first side of said pole piece and the first primer charge and is provided with first and second electrical contact members having an electrical ignition bridge and/or gap formed therebetween. The electrical ignition bridge and/or gap faces the first primer charge and the first contact member is electrically conductively connected with the pole piece while the second contact member is electrically conductively connected with the housing. The insulating element is further provided with a second communicating path providing communication between the first communicating path and the first primer charge.

Combined igniter cap

A caseless formed propellant powder charge including a shaped propellant powder charge having a central continuous recess or hole and a percussion-sensitive primer charge with an H-shaped cross section disposed in the recess. Preferably, the shaped propellant charge and the primer charge are fabricated from materials such as nitrocellulose, polyvinyl nitrate, nitroguanidine, penthrite, or mixtures thereof, and tetrazene or tetrazene tricinate, respectively. The compression and dimensioning of the various portions of the H-shaped primer charge may be modified to achieve the desired sensitivity.

Molding a primer charge within a caseless propellant charge

Device for tensioning safety belts in vehicles in which one end of the safety belt is securable to the vehicle and the other end of the belt is securable to the tensioning device. The device includes a cylinder having a piston with a piston rod extending from one side of the piston out of the cylinder to which the safety belt is securable. The piston is provided with a recess receiving an electrically ignitable propellant charge cartridge such that upon ignition of the cartridge propellant gases are generated which flow into the cylinder at the piston rod side of the piston for causing the piston and piston rod to be displaced into the cylinder to effect a tensioning of the safety belt.

A separating element comprises a body member for securing at least two parts together. The body member has an electrically ignitable separating charge disposed in tamped form within a recess therein, means operatively associated with the separating charge, which when a predetermined temperature has been reached, renders the explosive effect of the separating charge ineffective and ignition means for igniting the separating charge within said recess when separation of the parts is required.
