The vehicle headliner has integrated head-side airbag modules. Each module has an elongated accommodation housing () for a folded airbag (). The accommodation housings () are arranged along the side edges of the headliner (). At the side of the headliner (), the accommodation housing () is connected to a support structure () that has support ribs and that is joined to the headliner by means of gluing. On the opposite side, facing the vehicle body, the accommodation housing () is covered by a further support structure () having numerous support ribs.

A restraint device for an occupant in a vehicle having a steering wheel, a dashboard with a lower end limiting a footwell, an A-pillar and a windshield, comprises a first gas bag for protecting the thorax area of a vehicle occupant, and a second gas bag for supporting the first gas bag. The second gas bag has a deployed condition and extends at least partly over the windshield of the vehicle in the deployed condition.

Vehicle occupant restraint device

The invention relates to an inflatable side impact protection system for an occupant of a vehicle having a side-panel and a window section in the side-panel. The protection system comprises a gas bag which when packed has a specific pack length, a gas generator for inflating the gas bag, and a side-panel covering. The window section is provided which has a lower edge, the side-panel covering having an upper end piece which terminates the covering at the lower edge of the window section. The gas bag when packed is arranged under the end piece and in a deployed state covers the vehicle side panel over a large area for protecting at least one of the thorax and pelvic region of the occupant. The end piece is constructed, at least over sections, as a flap which, when swung open, defines a downward pointing ejection channel for the gas bag.

Side impact protection system

A protective system is proposed for an optimum protection of a vehicle occupant against lateral effects, which consists of a plurality of elements combined with each other. An inflatable protective cushion (,) which is supported on the side structure of the vehicle and is inflated to be very hard is provided in the pelvic region. Above it, integrated into the inner covering of the door is an impact body (,) which extends between the door rail and the arm rest. A further inflatable protective cushion (,) at the level of the door rail provides an increased protection in the thorax region in cooperation with a releasable covering part (,) acting as an impact plate. A third inflatable protective cushion (,) is provided for the head region.

Inflatable protection device for protecting head and chest areas of passengers in an automobile during a side collision

A side impact protective device for vehicle occupants is arranged along a roof frame of a vehicle and includes a cladding part for covering the roof frame, a head gas bag and mounting members. The head gas bag is convertible from a folded state to an unfolded state and has, in its unfolded state, an upper part with two outer end portions. The head gas bag is arranged underneath the cladding part in the folded state extended in a longitudinal direction substantially parallel to the roof frame and only folded in a direction transversely to the longitudinal direction. The mounting members serve to attach the head gas bag at least at the outer end portions to the roof frame.

Side impact protective device for vehicle occupants

A vehicular roof headlining includes an integrated head protection restraining apparatus in the form of several inflatable gas bags which are stowed folded in a trough-shaped receiving body 18 in the border region of the headlining and form, together with the headlining, a preassembled module.

A vehicle occupant restraint system, particularly for vehicle occupant side restraint, includes an inflatable gas bag which, in a restraint situation, is fully inflated and is arranged in a final, desired position to restrain a vehicle occupant, a gas generator and a means engaging the gas bag. The means pulls the gas bag in a restraint situation into the desired position and maintains it in this position when the vehicle occupant impacts the gas bag.

Vehicle occupant restraint system

A gas bag lateral impact protective device for vehicle occupants is provided. The gas bag lateral impact protective device is integrated in a vehicle door and includes a compressed gas source and a head protecting gas bag which is to be inflated by the compressed gas source and which deploys on inflation in a space to the side of the vehicle door. The head protecting gas bag is connected with the vehicle door by a peripheral portion of an inflation opening and in addition by an attachment part which, with respect to a longitudinal direction of the vehicle, is spaced from the inflation opening.

A knee guard device for vehicle occupants comprises a gas bag arranged in the vehicle in a knee well for the vehicle occupant. In its non-inflated state, the gas bag has a length along an imaginary center axis in the axial direction which enables the gas bag to be installed substantially bow-shaped around the knee well in the vehicle. Upon inflation, the length of the gas bag is so reduced that it is tightened between its axial ends to be able to bear radial forces exerted to it by the knees of the occupant.

A gas bag lateral impact protective device for vehicle occupants is provided, which is integrated in a vehicle door. The gas bag lateral impact protective device comprises a compressed gas source, a thorax protecting gas bag and a head protecting gas bag provided at said thorax protecting gas bag. The thorax protecting gas bag and the head protecting gas bag are intended to be inflated by the compressed gas source and deploy, upon inflation, in a space to the side of the vehicle door, the head protecting gas bag deploying above the thorax protecting gas bag.

An inflatable gas bag for restraining systems in vehicles consists of a jacket portion and two side portions sewn thereto. A fold is arranged on the one side portion. The fold is separated from the remaining part of the gas bag by a seam along a separating line extending transversely of the ejection direction. The seam is so dimensioned in its tearing strength that on reaching a predetermined value of the gas bag internal pressure the fold tears. By the fold the expansion direction of the gas bag can be controlled within a relatively wide range. At the same time in desired manner the ejection width and ejection velocity are reduced. Finally, the fold also controls a relief opening which is formed in one of the superimposed wall portions of the fold.

Inflatable gas bag for restraining systems in vehicles

An inflatable gas bag for a restraining system in vehicles is provided in its wall with at least one predefined relief opening which remains sealed up to a predetermined internal pressure of the gas bag and is freed only when this internal pressure is exceeded. The gas bag therefore has the desired hardness in the initial phase of the restraining operation and thereafter effects an energy absorption by controlled discharge of the gases through the relief opening.
