A print product trimming device trims the forward edge of a print product supplied to it and has a stationary trimming knife having a knife shaft and a cutting edge attached to the knife shaft, a rotating drum, at least one counter knife attached to the rotating drum for rotating in a rotational direction and cooperating with the stationary knife along a circular cutting path. The trimming knife extends approximately transverse to the rotational direction of the counter knife. The cutting edge is a spiral cutting edge along surface lines of a cylindrical section that is formed by a cutting path of the counter knife. The knife shaft extends along the surface lines of the cylindrical section.

Device for trimming a print product

In a device for trimming the top edge, bottom edge, and opening edge of a printed product, the printed product is transported through a cutting region of a connected cutting unit in a closed clamp of a synchronously driven conveying apparatus. The conveying apparatus is configured as a conveying rotor and the clamps are guided on a circulating path. The printed product is trimmed in the cutting region of the cutting unit which is arranged between a transfer station and a delivery station. In the cutting region, each clamp transitions from a circular control path section into an intermediate control path section in which the clamp is maintained substantially perpendicular relative to a tangent to a circular cutting path of the cutting unit during trimming of at least the top and bottom edges of the printed product.

Device and method for trimming the top edge, bottom edge and opening edge of a printed product

In a device for trimming the top edge, bottom edge and opening edge of a printed product, for example a newspaper, the printed product is transported through A cutting region of a connected cutting unit in a closed clamp of a synchronously driven conveying apparatus. The conveying apparatus is configured as a conveying rotor and the clamps are guided past a transfer station for loading on a circulating path and past a delivery station for delivering a printed product in an open position. The printed product is trimmed in the cutting region of the cutting unit which is arranged between the transfer station and the delivery station and in which the printed product is clamped in the closed clamp.

A device for collecting printed products includes a rotating collecting cylinder to and a controllable holding device that holds and releases the printed products collected in a peripheral area of the collecting cylinder. A diverter includes an exposed end and a support roller. The diverter has an operational position to lift the products off the collecting cylinder and transfer them onto a conveying device, and a non-operational position for collecting the products on the collecting cylinder. A control unit moves the diverter from the non-operational position during an interval between two successive printed products and with the timing of the supplied printed products, to the operational position in which the diverter's exposed end is inserted in the surface area of the collecting cylinder. A circulating control member is drive-connected to the collecting cylinder and includes at least one control cam associated with the support roller in the non-operational and operational positions of the diverter.

Device for collecting printed products on a collecting cylinder

A method and apparatus for producing a digitally printed product that includes at least one section of sequentially printed sheets folded approximately in the center. The sequentially printed sheets are conveyed one after another on a conveying device and folded inside a folding apparatus to form a first fold. The folded sheets are gathered in a gathering station to form a section which is fed to a work station where the section is folded approximately in the center to form a second fold.

Method and arrangement for producing digitally printed newspapers

In a method for producing folded printed products a paper web is printed by at least one digital printing machine and the paper web is then processed by a sequence of processing steps, wherein full size sheets or web sections having at least four printed pages for a printed product with a multiple of four printed pages are cut from the paper web. The full size sheets or web sections are then folded to a folded state, respectively. The full size sheets or web sections are collected in the folded state and subsequently stitched. A buffer is formed of the full size sheets or the web sections during the sequence of the processing steps and the full size sheets or the web sections coming from the buffer are individualized to decouple the digital printing machine from at least some of the processing steps.

Method and device for producing folded printed products

An apparatus for collecting, stitching and/or cutting printed products includes an endless collector chain and feeders arranged one behind the other and above the collector chain for placing the printed products on the collector chain, and a stitching device for stitching or stapling the printed products, as well as a delivery unit for removing the printed products at the conveying end of the collector chain and for supplying the printed products to further processing. The apparatus also includes a drive unit which includes at least one servo drive which is controlled by a drive connected to the collector chain through a signal line in a timed synchronous manner and which drives additional units of the apparatus.

A cutting machine for automatically trimming edges of folded printed products has a first cutting station with a cutting element for performing a front cut at a front cut location on an open side of the printed products. A feeding device transports the printed products to the first cutting station. A transport device transports the printed products received from the feeding device in a transport direction through the first cutting station. A measuring device measures a position of each of the printed products in the first cutting station before reaching a cutting position. A control device controls the transport device based on the position measured by the measuring device such that a deviation of the position measured by the measuring device from a nominal position is corrected during further transport of the printed products.

An arrangement for forming a third stream of at least one first and one second stream of identical printed products has a first transport device synchronously conveying in a first conveying direction the first and second streams adjacent to one another. A second transport device is arranged downstream of the first transport device and has a second conveying direction substantially transverse to the first conveying direction of the first transport device. The first and second transport devices form steps transporting the printed products in a cascade fashion and combining the first and second streams to a common third stream.

A device is used to insert and/or deposit printed products into a conveying channel. The printed products are conveyed in the conveying channel with of carriers of a conveying element. An acceleration apparatus pre-accelerates the printed products in conveying direction. The acceleration apparatus conveys the printed products essentially in a straight line and at an angle to the conveying direction of the conveying channel. The printed products are preferably inserted with the aid of conveying belts and at an angle into the conveying channel. As a result of the slanted feed, the divisions of the conveying element can be optimized and the capacity increased.

A conveying device for collecting and transporting printed sheets has a first chain conveyor on which the printed sheets are placed astraddle to be conveyed in a conveying direction. A second chain conveyor is arranged downstream of the first chain conveyor in the conveying direction and synchronized with the first chain conveyor. An intermediate conveying device is arranged between the first and second chain conveyors and configured to grip intermediate products of collected printed sheets formed at the end of the collecting process on the first chain conveyor and to transport and transfer the intermediate products onto the second chain conveyor. The intermediate conveying device has a circulating traction mechanism and controllable grippers connected to the traction mechanism. The grippers grip a fold of the intermediate products lifted off the first chain conveyor and transport the intermediate products in an open position to the second chain conveyor.

A cutting machine for trimming three sides of printed products includes blades that are moved up and down in a first cutting station for trimming the front, and in a second cutting station for trimming the top and bottom of the printed products. A transport mechanism is provided for positioning the printed products at adjustable rear stops. The conveying path formed between adjustable stops associated with the cutting stations and the cutting region specified for top and bottom trimming along the conveying path of the printed products are variable.

A device for opening and depositing a folded signature onto a moving conveyor for conveying the folded signatures in a conveying direction includes two opening rollers each having a rotational axis that extends essentially parallel to the conveying direction of the conveyor. The opening rollers have a mechanism for opening the signatures and depositing the signatures with an open side first in a downward direction onto the conveyor. A pre-accelerating mechanism is operatively associated with the opening rollers for pre-accelerating the signatures in the conveying direction.

A method of and an apparatus for feeding a processing machine with flat products, such as printed sheets, cards, patterns or the like. Over a conveyor path arranged between a storage unit and the processing machine and forming a product storage unit, the flat products are carried from the storage unit in a stream formed by products arranged in an overlapping configuration. The product stream conveyed on the conveyor path toward the processing machine is followed by a product stream having a higher speed. The apparatus includes a device with a drivable storage unit for removing the flat products, wherein the storage unit is connected through a conveyor unit to a processing machine for processing the products. The conveyor unit includes a plurality of separate conveyor elements arranged one behind the other and driven in the same direction, wherein a sensor each is directed to the conveying ends of the conveyor elements, and wherein each sensor is connected to a control unit for changing the discharge speed of the product from the storage unit and/or the conveying speed of the products on the conveyor elements.

A gathering and stapling machine includes a gathering chain for conveying printed products and having a variable chain pitch. A stapling device staples the printed products that are conveyed on the gathering chain. A drive device includes a first gear for driving the stapling device, a second gear for driving the gathering chain and a change-over device connected to the first and second gears and having at least two fixed turns ratios.
