A method and apparatus of cooling retort coke is disclosed which provides for cooling hot coke from a coking chamber by direct heat exchange with fine-grained material, preferably coal, and the subsequent separation of the fine-grained material from lump coal which would form the cooling step.

Method of cooling and gasifying retort coal

A device and method for dry cooling incandescent coke comprises a closed cooling chamber having a coke inlet, for example, at its top end and a coke delivery or discharge at its bottom end which is subdivided by a plurality of vertical walls so as to leave coke flow spaces between the walls. The walls are constructed to define a continuous meandering path for coolant which is circulated through the walls during the flow of coke therethrough. The walls comprise superposed ducts arranged vertically one over the other and which for example are welded together and which have respective ends connected to a superjacent or subjacent duct so as to form a continuous meandering coolant flow passage. The coolant is circulated through inlet and outlet connections arranged exteriorly of the chamber and the coke flow and coolant flow are controlled through the chamber as desired to affect the cooling rate selected.

Device for cooling incandescent coke

A method for the dry cooling of coke comprises transferring the coke from the coke oven to a special bucket which is moved over a charging hole of a cooling pit. The space between the bucket and the charging hole is closed off and sealed against the atmosphere and a shutter which closes the top of the charging hole is moved upwardly and then transversely off the charging hole to open it as an intermediate charging guide piece is moved in position between the hole and the bucket for the transfer of the coke therebetween. The space between the bucket and the charging hole is sealed by a frame of a sluicing device in which the shutter and the intermediate charging hole guidepiece is movable. The device advantageously runs on wheels which are located outside the frame which seals the sapce between the charging bucket and the charging pit. The frame of the sluicing device advantageously includes a sealing element which engage into a recess seal combined around the charging hole.

Method of charging dry coke cooling pit using sluice

Briquettes made from bituminous or sub-bituminous coal or peat are produced by grinding the coal, mixing it with a binder and compacting the mixture. They are then carbonized in a continuous process in a shaft oven. The coal may be predried and the finished briquettes may be preheated, with a subsequent drying and hardening. The carbonization is effected in two stages in an indirectly heated shaft oven, with the evolved gas being taken off about at the mid-height of the oven shaft, processed, and used for heating in the second, high-temperature stage. The flue gases from this high-temperature stage are used for heating in the first stage and for preheating. The second or high-temperature stage is followed by a cooling stage where the gases evolved in the second stage, and mainly comprising hydrogen are used and circulated. The evolved gas in excess is continuously removed from the cooling circuit.

Apparatus with two-stage heating for carbonizing cold-compacted

A method for the dry cooling of coke comprises transferring the coke from the coke oven to a special bucket which is moved over a charging hole of a cooling pit. Apparatus for dry cooling of coke

A heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries having a plurality of coke oven chambers separated by heating walls and a plurality of regenerators extending the length of the coke oven for preheating air and cooling hot waste gases comprises a plurality of spaced heating ducts extending upwardly in the heating walls which are grouped into two adjacent pairs of heating ducts. The ducts in each group of four heating ducts are separated by first and second binder walls with the first binder walls carrying one binder duct for supplying air and discharging hot waste to and from adjacent heat ducts in one of the pairs in the group. The second wall is either provided with no heating ducts or a pair of heating ducts. A horizontal channel connects the tops of all four heating ducts in each group and the lower end of each heating duct is provided with a rich gas supply nozzle.

Heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries

A method for the gasification of coke is disclosed in which coke produced in a coking chamber and having a temperature of 900.degree. C. to 1100.degree. C. is forced into a coke bucket, after coking in the coking chamber, and fed by means of hot coke conveyors without substantial temperature changes to a gasifier. The coke is gasified in the gasifier while adding at least one of oxygen and air, and steam and carbon dioxide.

Coke gasification method

A method and apparatus is disclosed for indirectly drying and preheating fine material, in particular, moisture containing coal or the like, comprises, providing a rotary drum which is mounted for rotation and has a plurality of heating tubes extending therethrough, supplying heated cooling gas from a dry coke cooling system to the heating tubes, supplying the moist material to the drum, adjacent the bottom thereof, removing the material from the drum after it has been predried and preheated, and returning or recycling a portion of the predried and preheated material to the rotary drum. The method and apparatus utilizes the heated cooling gas used to cool dry coke in a dry coke cooling plant from high temperatures to below 200.degree. C. It has been found that such heated cooling gas for a selected amount of dry coke is useful either in a series of more than one rotary drum or, to process moist material in a single rotary drum and also generate steam as a byproduct.

A preheating moist fine material, such as pit coal and lignate, peat, wood, oil shale, or even ores or limestone for cement production, and an apparatus for carrying out the method are disclosed. Moist fine material is mixed above a heater with predried and preheated material until the mixture is made fluid. The fluid mixture slides down between and piles up to a level above the heater. A part of the predried and preheated fine material is removed from below the heater in an amount corresponding to another part thereof and is conveyed to above the heater with the moist fine material.

Method of drying and preheating moist fine material and apparatus for

A three-cycle process as disclosed for drying and preheating coking coal using the heat from cooled coke. Cooling gas is passed over hot coke to heat the cooling gas and cool the coke. The heated cooling gas is then passed through a waste heat boiler and then back to the hot coke in a coke cooling chamber. This completes the first closed cycle. Water is supplied to the waste heat boiler to form steam. The steam is supplied to a fluidized bed of wet coal to indirectly preheat and dry the wet coal in a second cycle. The wet coal is fluidized using fluidizing gas which converts water in the wet coal into steam. Some of the steam is condensed from the combination of fluidizing gas plus steam and then the fluidizing gas is returned to the bed. Steam from the waste heat boiler is also supplied to the fluidizing gas before it re-enters the bed to heat the fluidizing gas.

Process for drying and preheating coal utilizing heat in dry cooling or

The process for the production of molded metallurgical coke from dried coal or fine coal mixtures with a low swelling index particularly highly volatile fine coal comprises mixing normal washed fine coal or fine coal mixtures of a grain size of from 0 to 10 mm and a swelling index of not more than 5 with a binder, pressing the mixture into briquettes, oxidizing the briquettes in a continuous material flow stream, and coking the oxidized briquettes continuously in an oven chamber by supplying indirectly and exhausting the coke oven gases with a temperature of 300.degree. to 1200.degree. C. The device for carrying out the process includes a vertically extending reactor housing having an oxidation chamber adjacent the top thereof with an indirectly heated vertical coking chamber directly below the oxidation chamber and with a cooling chamber directly below the coking chamber and including means for circulating heating gases into the coking chamber and then upwardly through the coking chamber and out adjacent the top of the coking chamber and into the oxidation chamber.

Process and apparatus for the production of molded metallurgical coke

An apparatus and arrangement is disclosed for cooling glowing coke in a dry circuit which utilizes a cooling chamber divided by cooling walls into a plurality of parallel vertically extending cooling channels. The cooling walls are supplied with a cooling medium for indirectly cooling the glowing coke. A coke discharge mechanism in the form of a chute having a comb-like end and paddle wheels between the teeth of the comb is provided at the bottom of each cooling channel to discharge coke from the cooling chamber in a controlled fashion to an underlying after-chamber. Each cooling channel is provided with cooling gas for directly cooling the glowing coke. An arrangement utilizing the apparatus supplies cooling gas directly to the cooling channels which, after passing out of the cooling chamber, passes into a waste heat boiler which is supplied with water so that it is heated by the now hot cooling gas to produce steam. Cooling water is also provided to the cooling walls for producing additional steam and for being heated in the waste heat boiler.
