A nebulizer for nebulizing a liquid from a container is proposed. The nebulizer comprises a liquid pump for withdrawing the liquid in doses from the container and pressurizing the respective doses for nebulization. The nebulizer comprises in addition an air pump for temporarily pressurizing the liquid in the container to help withdrawing the liquid from a collapsible bag in the container.

Nebulizer

The invention relates to a capsule for receiving a preferably powdered pharmaceutical preparation and an inhaler in which, for inhalation, the preparation is expelled from the capsule through at least one hole. A capsule according to the invention comprises as capsule elements a capsule cap and a capsule body, at least one of which comprises at least one prefabricated hole. Systems according to the invention comprising inhalers and capsules are described, in which the prefabricated hole in the capsule is sealed off in the transporting state of the system and is open in the usage state. The hole is exposed by actuation of a pushing or pulling mechanism. Prior to this the hole is closed off by part of the capsule itself or by a capsule receptacle belonging to the inhaler. In one embodiment the capsule may be present in two different states, for example in different insertion positions of the capsule elements. In the first state the prefabricated hole is closed off and in the second it is exposed. Another system according to the invention consists of a capsule body open at the top and an inhaler, the capsule that is open at the top being filled inside the inhaler.

Inhalator and capsule for an inhalator

An inhaler including a pre-inserted cartridge () is proposed. The cartridge contains liquid () which is preferably pressurized to a low pressure. The cartridge is connected via an aerosol valve () with the inhaler. The liquid is further pressurized by a pump () of the inhaler to a high pressure and atomized.

Cartridge system

A reservoir and a nebulizer having such a reservoir are proposed. The reservoir comprises a closure for a fluid chamber with a medicament formulation that is formed by two closure members welded together. The closure comprises a particle barrier for preventing the ingress into the fluid chamber of any weld particles that may potentially be formed during the welding of the two closure members. The fluid chamber is preferably broadened in the shape of a beaver tail and is sealed lengthways with an additional strip of material.

Reservoir and atomizer

An inhaler () is proposed (see FIG.), for the inhalation of a formulation () from capsules () that each contain one dose of the formulation. The capsules are preferably each emptied in a capsule chamber () by being set in motion by a stream of air flowing through the capsule chamber. The stream of air can be generated by the inhalation of a user or patient and/or can be generated actively generated by the inhaler. For simple handling, the inhaler has a means for, in particular, automatic filling, emptying and/or cleaning of the capsule chamber, if the latter is used more than once. Alternatively, the inhaler has a large number of capsule chambers that each preferably already contain a capsule and re preferably used just once.

An inhaler for inhaling powdered medicaments from capsules, having: a lower part which is cup-shaped, a plate latched to the lower part to close off the lower part, a capsule holder arranged on the underside of the plate, a mouthpiece that can be latched to the top of plate, and an actuating member for interacting with at least one pin for piercing a capsule in the capsule holder, where the actuating member includes a larger outer actuating member and a smaller inner actuating member, the outer actuating member forms a user-operated push-button, the inner actuating member contacts and holds the pin below a suspension element of the outer actuating member from the plate, and the point of application of force by the user onto push-button is lower than the inner actuating member.

Powder inhaler

An inhaler () is proposed for inhaling a preparation () from a carrier () and/or through a delivery channel () as depicted in exemplary FIG.. The carrier or delivery channel is preferably flexible, flat, band-shaped, strip-shaped, thread-like, blister-like and/or film-like and can be set in vibration by a stream of air (). The carrier or delivery channel is preferably set in vibration by a separate element (), which for its part is set in motion or vibration by the stream of air. Alternatively, or in addition, the inhaler has a pump () with a telescopic pump chamber () for generating a stream of air for expelling and/or dispersing a preparation.

A preferably pulverulent formulation to be dosed is received in a dosing chamber having a partly gas-permeable wall. The introduction and discharge of the formulation is achieved by means of a pumping device that alternately generates a negative pressure and an excess pressure in the dosing chamber. The dosing chamber can also be displaced between a receiving position and a discharge position by means of a piston, the piston controlling the negative and excess pressure in the dosing chamber. Furthermore, the size of the dosing chamber is adjustable.

The invention relates to a novel capsule for receiving an active substance to be administered by inhalation, which is preferably intended for use in a powder inhaler operating on the Bernoulli principle.

Capsule for taking an active substance which can be inhaled

Foil bags are used as a primary packaging for liquids, the bags permitting the liquid to be taken therefrom without the application of a considerable amount of force. A container is provided for a medicinal liquid, the container being gas-tight and liquid-tight so that it is storable over many months. The container includes a collapsible foil bag on which a flange, which is stable in respect of shape, is disposed. The flange is designed for fitting onto a discharge connection member. The container can be disposed in a casing which is stable in respect of shape. The medicinal liquid does not come into contact with air and is protected from the effect of light. The medicinal liquid may be dispensed from the foil bag in many partial quantities over a prolonged period of time, with a respective partial amount thereof being converted into an aerosol by means of an atomizer.

A nebuliser and a container in each case with an aeration device are proposed, the aeration device being designed for the direct aeration of a liquid space in the container. The container comprises a rigid, gas-tight outer case and a closure, which is opened by connecting or inserting a delivery element. A long storage life and long service life with low loss of fluid or solvent are thereby provided in the form of a simple and inexpensive construction.

For meteredly dispensing a liquid over a period of several months from a container which can be stored over a long period of time, the need is for a container which is practically diffusion-tight and in which the liquid does not come into contact with the ambient atmosphere. The cartridge according to the invention is a three-shell container comprising a collapsible bag which contains the liquid, a container which is stable in respect of shape and a stiff metal casing. The cartridge can be releasably connected to a dispensing device. The cartridge can be provided with a micro-opening with which the time for pressure equalisation between the cartridge and the ambient atmosphere can be adjusted. The cartridge is suitable for aqueous and for alcoholic liquids which contain a pharmaceutically active substance. The liquid in the cartridge is protected from external influences. The cartridge can be used in an atomiser for producing an inhalable aerosol for the treatment of illnesses.

The invention relates to a nozzle system for a delivery device for liquids, which comprises a nozzle and a device which fixes the nozzle in the delivery device. The device has a liquid reservoir from which a liquid is forced through a nozzle under pressure to deliver the liquid. The nozzle is secured by a holder on the delivery device. This holder may itself be secured by a second holder, e.g. in the form of a check nut, or the check nut itself may be the holder. According to the invention at least part of the outer surface of the holding device is micro- or nanostructured.

For medical fluids, two-part containers are used which consist of an inner container and an outer container which is impenetrable to diffusion. The inner container collapses when the fluid is removed. For the purposes of pressure compensation between the gaseous space, disposed between the inner- and outer containers, and the surroundings of the two-part container, a pressure compensation device is required by means of which at the same time the loss of fluid through diffusion from the collapsible inner container is kept as little as possible. To that end, at least one channel is used which communicates the gas-filled intermediate space with the surroundings of the two-part container. The time constant for compensation of a pressure differential of a few millibars is within the region of quite a few hours. It is obtained by selecting the length of the channel and channel cross-section. The, at least one, channel can be produced individually, or a plurality of channels can be present in the form of pores in an open-pore sintered material or in a permeable membrane. The pressure compensation device permits storage of the two-part container for many years, and use for many weeks as fluid is being removed in portion-wise manner. During these times, the quantity of fluid in the inner container, or the concentration thereof changes substantially less than with the use of a known two-part container.
