A component (22; 23; 122) is positioned on or formed as part of a plate (20) which is supported by a bearing (14) and which is supported at the position of the component (22; 23; 122) to be positioned by a support (8). The positioning is carried out by a die (10) which together with the support is controlled by a control system, comprising one or more reference signal sources, comparators (24, 30) and amplifiers (25, 31) , in such a way that the component (22; 23; 122) is accurately positioned relative to reference plane (26) relative to the plate. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus (1) for a tape (12) in a cassette (2) includes a tape-guide device (24) for withdrawing the tape (12) from the cassette (2), wrapping the tape around a tape-guide drum (34) , and returning the tape into the cassette (2). The tape-guide device (24) includes a supporting ring (49) which is rotatable relative to the tape-guide drum (34), for carrying at least two tape guides (22,23), a first tape-guide (22) keeping the tape (12) wrapped around the tape-guide drum (34) and a second tape-guide (23) which in its operating position keeps the tape (12) away from the tape-guide drum (34). The second tape guide (23) is arranged on a lever (57) which is pivotable relative to the supporting ring (49) under the influence of the tape tension forces exerted on it, against the force of a spring (61) which acts on the lever (57), thus precluding looping of the tape and the occurrence of excessive tape-tension forces during change-over between search modes in different directions and when the tape is returned into the cassette (2).

A braking member, which is a roller, is pressed against a braked surface of an object by an element having a pressing surface which is elongated in the direction of relative movement and is parallel to the braked surface. Movement of the braking roller along the pressing surface is limited by two fixed stops which engage the roller braking surface. The braking force for each of the two directions of relative motion may be independently varied, for a fixed pressing force, by varying the inclination of the stop surface which is engaged by the roller surface.

A cassette holder is moveable between a first and a second end position, and has at least one actuating spring moving it from the first to the second position. The spring is a cylindrical helical spring wound around a shaft rotatably mounted on the cassette holder, and having at least one pinion meshing with a rack having the same shape as the path of movement of the cassette holder between the two positions. The spring is pretensioned, and the holder is latched in the first end position against the spring force. Upon release of the latch, the spring drives the shaft and pinion so that movement of the pinion along the rack moves the cassette holder from the first end position to the second end position.

In a rotary scanning magnetic tape recorder having a head support clamped on a shaft by a cylindrical portion, a clamping ring which is adjustable axially has at least three clamping projections arranged axially symmetrically with respect to the shaft and projecting radially toward and contacting the cyclindrical portion. An adjusting ring, rotatable with respect to the support, bears against the clamping ring through at least three cam-and-follower arrangements arranged axially symmetrically relative to the shaft. The adjusting ring is rotated with respect to the support by engagement of a pinion through a bore in the clamping ring and meshing with an annular gear segment on the adjusting ring.

A tape threading device for a helical scan tape cassette recorder, having pivotal levers each having a tape guide for withdrawing and wrapping the tape about a guide drum. The levers overlap each other at an area of instantaneous overlap at which they are coupled to each other by a mechanism including a sliding block which is guided by a carrier device along a path which extends in the area of overlap. The sliding block is in force-sustained engagement with a link-motion surface on at least one of the levers.

A drum-shaped scanning device (12) for a magnetic tape (2) comprises at least one rotatable head mount (42, 43) which comprises a planar mounting portion (44, 45) and a planar carrier portion (46, 47) for supporting a magnetic head (34, 35) which is disposed symmetrically relative to a radial line (38, 39) through the axis of rotation (24) of the head mount, the mounting portion and the carrier portion being integrally connected by at least one flexible strip-shaped connecting member (56, 57, 58, 59) which extends in the same direction as the radial line and which is deformable to permit adjustment of the carrier portion relative to the mounting portion in order to adjust the position of the magnetic head. The connecting member (56, 57, 58, 59) is bent into a U-shape about a bending axis (60, 61) which extends perpendicularly to said radial line and is parallel to the planes of the mounting portion and the carrier portion, which planes are perpendicular to the axis of rotation (24), the mounting portion (44, 45 ) and the carrier portion (46, 47) being interconnected by said connecting member at their edges which are remote from the circumferential surface (21), so that said portions are situated above one another and are resiliently biased relative to each other. An adjusting device (62, 63) which bears against the mounting portion (44, 45) acts on the carrier portion (46, 47) in order to adjust the carrier portion in a direction parallel or substantially parallel to the axis of rotation. For adjusting the carrier portion (46, 47) perpendicularly to the axis of rotation (24) said portion comprises at least one contact surface (70, 71, 78, 79, 73, 80, 81) for a further adjusting device (86) which bears against at least one abutment surface (74, 75, 82, 83, 76, 77, 84, 85) on the mounting portion (44, 45).

Drum-shaped scanning device

An arrangement for mounting a hub on a shaft such as the rotatable head support of a helical scan tape recorder. The hub has a tubular portion coaxial with the shaft, which is clamped onto the shaft by a device having three clamping jaws which are force-coupled to each other and engage the tubular portion at equally spaced locations circumferentially around the shaft in a plane substantially perpendicular to the shaft, the clamping surface of at least one clamping jaw being adjustable by an adjusting device to move the clamping surface in a direction substantially perpendicular to the shaft axis. One or all of the jaws may be pivotally interconnected to the other jaws.
