The present invention relates to a polymer composition containing polycarbonate with a weight-average molecular weight Mw of from 24,000 to 33,000 and 5.0 wt. % to 20.0 wt. % (based on the total amount of the composition) of glass hollow spheres with an alkalinity of less than 1.0 meq/g. The present invention furthermore provides coextruded sheets in which the coextruded layer contains this polymer composition, and shaped articles produced therefrom, in particular containers and pieces of luggage, very particularly suitcases. Sheets which are obtainable with the polymer composition according to the invention have a high mechanical stability, a high scratch resistance, pleasant haptic properties and an excellent homogeneous external visual impression. The present invention furthermore relates to a process for the preparation of these polymer compositions and a process for production of the sheets according to the invention.

Polycarbonate composition having improved heat stability

The present invention concerns a process for producing a container having at least one layer and a top layer, wherein the layer contains polycarbonate and the top layer contains polyarylethersulfone or polyarylsulfone, characterised in that a) polycarbonate is melted on an extruder at 230-320&#xb0; C., b) polyarylethersulfone or polyarylsulfone is melted on a further extruder, c) the melts obtained from steps a) and b) are shaped by coextrusion into a tube, which is then enclosed in a mould, d) the extrudate is inflated inside the mould and pressed against the wall of the mould, forming the shape of the container, and e) the container obtained from d) is trimmed and cooled, such containers and the use of the containers as bottles or medical devices.

Method for the production of multilayer containers

A process for making a high molecular weight (co)polycarbonate resin is disclosed. The process entails (i) obtaining at least one member selected from the group low molecular weight residue (weight average molecular weight 15,000 to 30,000) of aromatic (co)polycarbonate production, waste of (co)polycarbonate production, remainders of (co)polycarbonate production and (co)polycarbonate recyclate (ii) melting the said member in a suitable vessel to obtain a melt and (iii) feeding the melt into a reactor optionally along with at least one bisphenol or oligocarbonate having terminal OH groups and further optionally with a transesterification catalyst, and (iv) subjecting the melt to transesterification reaction at a temperature of 250 to 350&#xb0; C., at a pressure below 5 mbar and residence time of 0.02-4 hours.

Process for the recycling of polycarbonates

A continuous process for splitting an aromatic polycarbonate resin is disclosed. Accordingly there are reacted in a distillation column and in the presence of a catalyst (i) a polycarbonate resin in solution with (ii) methanol to produce a dihydroxy compound and dimethyl carbonate. The solution which contains polycarbonate and monohydroxy compound solvent exclusive of methanol is fed into the upper section of said column and the methanol is fed into the lower section of the column. The methanol is fed in the form of a mixture containing methanol and about 1-50 weight percent of dimethyl carbonate. The dimethyl carbonate thus produced is removed from an upper section of the column and the dihydroxy compound is removed from a lower section of the column.

Process for splitting polycarbonates

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of polydiorganosiloxane block copolycarbonates having special bridging members between the siloxane blocks and the carbonate blocks, and the polydiorganosiloxane block copolycarbonates which are obtainable by the process according to the invention and with which optionally further customary additives can be mixed.
