Method, devices and computer programs for a dynamic management of a first server application on a first server platform of a telecommunication system are disclosed wherein a further server application is operating or installable on the first server platform or a further server platform. The first server platform has a maximum processing capacity and a capacity fraction of the maximum processing capacity is assignable to the first server application reserving the capacity fraction for processing the first server application. A determination of a required processing capacity for processing at least one of the first server application and the further server application, an analysis of the required processing capacity for an assignment of the capacity fraction to the first server application, and an assignment of the capacity fraction are performed.

Method and devices for dynamic management of a server application on a server platform

Devices and methods for selecting network nodes in a cellular communication network. By dropping fixed connections between network nodes of different hierarchy levels, for instance, a network node of an access network has to make a selection among different core network nodes. The selected core network node requires service information on the access network node and the area serviced by the access network node. Devices and methods are disclosed for selecting network nodes and for providing service information. The devices can be implemented in the network centrally or in a distributed manner.

Method for the distribution of a network traffic according to SLA and QoS parameters

The invention addresses the field of mobile communications. It relates to a method, network node and computer program for management of cached information within a hierarchical structure. The basic approach is to provide an intelligent mechanism for more dynamic management of the cached contents. In particular it provides a solution for a more efficient utilisation of the storage resources in a caching architecture by caching a single cached copy of the same content on each path from a client to the original source in the hierarchical architecture. This basically means that the cached information is placed as high up the hierarchy as necessary, but that the mechanism is enhanced with the capability to also move the cached information down the hierarchy in case the content is mainly used on a regular base by hosts connected to a part of the hierarchical architecture. The dynamics of the proposed solution foresees also to replicate a cached content to more then one part of the hierarchical architecture.

Hierarchical caching in telecommunication networks

To achieve a transparent service parameter exchange between networks using a circuit-oriented protocol and networks using a packet-oriented protocol, there is provided a service parameter interworking method adapted to achieve a service parameter exchange between the networks by mapping circuit-switched service parameters into related packet-switched parameters or vice versa and then forwarding payload data between the different networks using the mapping result.

A distributed caching and redistribution system, method, and mobile client for caching and redistributing data content in a wireless data network. The system enables mobile clients to cache data content that has been distributed by means of broadcast or multicast, and to redistribute the content from the cache to other users. Using anycast techniques applied to the PLMN, a user who wants to retrieve data that was distributed earlier locates the nearest user that has the content available, and asks the nearest user to forward the content. The 'nearest' user may be the closest user, but may also be the optimal user from a Quality of Service (QoS) point of view.

Distributed Caching and Redistribution System and Method in a Wireless Data Network

A traffic management system and a method for managing in a network object traffic formed on a physical layer along path sections between individual path points. The traffic management system comprises a packet switched control network including said packet control units on a traffic control layer in which packets moving along packet routing links between packet control units simulate the movement of corresponding objects in the physical layer. If the arrival of an object is detected at a path point and the arrival of a corresponding packet is not detected at a packet control unit corresponding to the path point, a synchronization device in a packet control unit sends a packet corresponding to the object to the packet control unit corresponding to the path point at which the object has arrived. Thus, avoiding non-synchronous states between the packet routing and object movement.

Traffic management system including packet to object synchronization mechanisms

In case the first indicator specifies a number of anycast members greater than the second indicator, the number of nearest anycast members indicated by the second indicator (in the following: second number of anycast members) are skipped and not contacted, while a number of anycast members is determined for data communications with the sender up to a number obtained by a comparison of the number of anycast members specified by the first indicator (in the following: first number) and the second number. In particular, the number of nearest anycast members to be determined corresponds to the differen e between the first number and the second number. In case the first number corresponds to the second number, no further anycast members have to be determined. The same applies for the case wherein the first number is smaller than the second number.

Method and system for multiple hosts anycast routing

The mobile communication network () comprises at least one circuit switching access network () that supports circuit switched communications. A call control system () for providing call related functions for packet switched communications, arranged to send and receive call control information in accordance with a first call control protocol (SIP) for packet switched communication, is provided. An access control system () is arranged to exchange call control information with said call control system () by using said first call control protocol (SIP), and to exchange call control information with said circuit switching access network () by using a second call control protocol (RANAP/BSSAP).

Call control network, access control server and call control method

A communication network element or part and a method for operating a communication network part are disclosed. The communication network part includes a first layer for transferring signalling information assigned to a telephone call being processed in the network and a second layer for transferring payload information assigned to the telephone call. An interface couples the network to a further network and includes a signalling information exchange function and user or payload information exchange function between the network and the further network. The second layer generates an information frame which includes user information of the telephone call being transferred to and from the interface on a direct route assigned to the telephone call within the second layer and selectively suppresses the transfer of an information frame within the second layer if the information frame does not include any user information.

Handling of circuit-switched data services in IP-based GSM networks

The invention relates to a method for selecting transmission entities for supporting services within and between networks. The problem of selecting a transmission entity, taking as well a plurality of service parameter as a plurality of transmission entities into account, is solved by sending a request including a set of parameter to a number of transmission entities. The receiver of said request check, whether they support the requested service, or if they can offer an alternative. They transmission to different transmission entities is performed offering a number of alternatives.

Method for the selection of transmission entities

A message is distributed from a source to one or more hosts in a communications network that comprises one or more multicast capable routers. To do this, a first multicast capable router generates a first table that identifies sub-branches connected to the first multicast capable router, and for each identified sub-branch, includes membership-related information from which it can be determined how many hosts are part of the sub-branch and (optionally) a metric associated with each of the sub-branch hosts. The multicast capable router then receives the message to be distributed and a first value, N1, that specifies how many hosts the message is to be distributed to, and uses the first table to identify N1 hosts and their respective sub-branches. It distributes the message to each of the identified sub-branches along with a second value that specifies how many hosts within the sub-branch the message is to be distributed to.
